Still doesn't mean real life hours weren't spent. Or even real life money at that. Sure, characters aren't real, but the people behind them sure are.
you play for goals or for having fun? if its the first.....
Think of mabinogi like any other hobby.
My other hobby is building things. Electronic devices.
When they end up not working or failing or blowing up due to faulty parts (or my own ignorance). i'd get mad at the time spent on it :(

Why not both? People set up goals in game so that they have something to work towards. This game can be long and grindy. If one doesn't have a goal to work towards, it can seem like a mindless grind, rather than actually having fun.
Like Aubog said, Mabinogi, like many other games, is simply a hobby. If one spends hours upon hours working on something, then it ends up being broken/deleted/etc. they will most likely get angry/upset/discouraged.
Just because you don't care if something goes wrong, doesn't mean others don't as well. Different people have different personalities.
who told i dont care if something goes wrong? i mean u face it not cry over it
if you dont it means you are not having fun...and games were invented, as i know, to have fun
theres no real goals on a game, if you mind about it like i read here....jesus christ...
but as i said, some ppl NEEDS to reach a goal somewhere, when they cant make it for real
I just laugh at ppl when they feel important on those success, mostly ppl that ignores newbies
or look at them as stupid ppl (90% of mabi players?)
grinding is still fun if u think on the benefits, but ppl train skills like it where an actual job, like:
"uhg no..i have to train this xxxx skill .... "
thats silly and makes ppl go mad like this thread shows
ive been in the same situation thousand of times n i never complained, cause, know what?
i had fun doing it
and what i lost? items, whch i can get again
money, same
the only ppl who lose in a game, are ppl whch "works" a game instead of "playing"
My guild on mabinogi quit because the game became a "job" to them.
They were over 3-4k doing the same thing over and over every day and realized. "what the fk am i doing"
Everyone quit. I basically am the only one left.
I too think Mabinogi becomes like a "job" at times.
Just 'cause it's a game doesn't make it any less frustrating. -rolls eyes-
It's rude to judge people for actually trying to enjoy a game.

Never said anything about not having fun. Also, losing something you worked hard on isn't fun to most people. Maybe it is to you, but to others it isn't.
So you can't have a goal in a hobby? Like was said before, one makes a goal in a game to achieve something, as you would with a real life hobby.
You've said you liked to make electronical devices as a hobby. Say one decides to take part of this hobby. One of their goals may be to learn how to wire circuits and learn how different connections work before actually trying to do something big like building a computer motherboard from scratch. That would be a goal to someone.
Same deal with a game. One goal of someone in a game may be to reach 200 dex for the first time. So they will do things that are fun to reach that goal.
So laughing at those successes would be the same at laughing at simple newbie successes of any other hobby.
Same deal with any other hobby. Maybe someone wants to jump into building computers by scratch automatically, but they feel like it's work to actually learn how to do it at first. Or trying to learn how to play an instrument. One person may want to jump into being able to do epic guitar solos when they first pick up a guitar, but they may not want to go through all the lessons it takes to get there. etc.
Again, you are your own person. Not everyone is like you. Just because your thoughts are different, doesn't mean others thoughts are automatically wrong.
Not entirely. To you, maybe. To others, it can still be discouraging even while having fun.
its a part of the process...if u cant hadle it, play something that fits you
Real life, yes
bits? come on....
Goal that makes something for good
does dex light a candle?
i ever said i laugh at their goals, just the way they feel "superior" to others for that
I just laugh at ppl when they feel important on those success, mostly ppl that ignores newbies

a Hobby is something u do cause u love it... i just read u have a wrong idea about a hobby.... typical of a child who does what parents/friends says
it was an example... jesus....
does the guy who started the thread have fun? no. Does he work it? obviously yes
Btw you took the time to answer this? my my...
Why do you need to respond in such a negative way? I was simply ranting because i disconnected in a dungeon that costed me 500k and tons of my mp pots, and now i need to save up more money and wait for another person to sell a statue. I posted this right after i d/ced and i was just really angry, and i had one of the best connections i've had in weeks, so i didnt see a reason that mabi would disconnect me right before the boss.
@Kingofrunes Why do you think i have 3 characters? And also, i dont work much on my homestead, so they arent at the level to plant mana herbs, and i wasnt going to rush to that level since i had a big supply of potions at that time. If i made it to the end of the dungeon i wouldnt mind the loss of my potions because it would have been worth it, and i woulve just made my way up to planting mana herbs. And also, i dont have a high rank herbalism or potion making yet, cuz my elf is a noob.
