jWiki only lists ice/fire/thunder/Dittes/healing/combat wands under ego wands, so I would guess you can't.
I also over heard someone saying "It'd be nice if we could ego Metal wands :<" a couple days ago.

It's not true. The egoable wands are only the ones that Zeah listed.
