Finally got a new PC!

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. Yeah, I'm aware of the graphics card length limits of various cases. x( It's not really an issue for me since I'm no fan of the high end, long cards anyway. They tend to die faster. :( My current build uses a P150/Solo, which I believe is even smaller. But the Radeon HD 5770 I got to replace my dead GeForce 7600GT fits in it, so it's all good!

I'm leaning towards the Define R3, but the air intake system on that seems inferior to the P180/190. I'd have to ask around and see if it's an issue. People on Newegg are also reporting quality control issues. :S

Yeah, modular's neat. Especially as the PSU comes with so many flipping cables! Not entirely sure what I'll do when I get a second GPU but I've resigned myself to the fact that the cable that goes to the top of the mobo won't be able to go behind the plate at that time.

I prefer professional styling like the Antec P183. Currently I'm considering between the P183, the Define R3, and a few other quiet-optimized cases. x(
The Dragonlord series is fun like that, there's the k-58, the k-60 and then the k-62 (mine). The main difference is that the 58 has only two fans (bottom front and top rear) whilst the k-60 adds two top mounted fans and the k-62 makes those fans blue (I would have just gone for the k-60 and saved some money but the company didn't have it >:|). The thing is there are further variants of those three. By default the 58 doesn't come with a window while the other two do but you can get versions which have a smaller window (same height, simply doesn't show the drive bay) and windowless versions too for people who don't like windows. I really could have gone for a much cheaper case (and spent that extra money elsewhere!) but I spent weeks (I wish I could say I'm kidding QQ) reading up on other various hardware parts trying to make sure I get what was best for me as possible in various areas so when I came to picking a case I kinda lost my mind (and even then it still took me a couple of days to choose one -_-;). In future I'll probably go with either a noise reduction case or maybe go with something absurdly flashy like the Strike-X lol. More photos to come! My connection, it cries.

More photos! Had a big hoo haa trying to get my graphics card. I had a friend from the states order one off newegg and then send it over except the tracking on the parcel was stuck in "Pending" for ages...

I get my parcel.... tracking is still in pending >_> I had actually called earlier in the day and the postal service didn't even think it was in the country yet.

It certainly looks quite neat. All the manuals and stuff are in the top layer, along with a PSU ad, a Crossfire connector and a product info/customer services card... that doubles as a door hanger with "Do not disturb I'm gaming" on it. It's really quite amusing, I'll be sure to get a photo of it later.

It certainly looks the part though I'm marginally concerned that it looks like it might dump some of the heat inside the case. So far this hasn't been a problem though (I don't expect it to be at this point) and the air coming out the top of my case is still cooler than ambient.

It's to be expected but it's a monster of a card (though it looks neat next to my larger than normal PSU). Tool-less installation again though I'll probably remove the card when I have to move the system. That EPS cable annoys me so much ;-; I probably won't be able to loop it around like that with a second GPU in place so it'll be the sole cable to not go behind the mobo plate in some way or another at that point :<

Build complete after weeks and weeks of delays. In the first place I spent a loooooooooooong time reading up on hardware to try and see that I'd get the best as I could for my money. Still didn't stop me from making a couple of stupid mistakes though!
