It's daft and unrealistic, though. Fear is fear. If it were that easy to overcome, we'd all be ballzy f*cks by now.
Let people fear what they want to fear. Unless it's completely irrational, it's normal. We're human. Not robots.
Au contraire
This rule is true for you because you believe it. The same rule doesn't apply to me because I don't believe it. While I don't think you can control your circumstances, and I also don't claim to be completely fearless, the simple fact is that whatever you believe is your reality, that's why you see so many idiots running around that you swear are living on a different planet. I believe I can be fearless so most of the time I am. Fear is a healthy thing in certain situations, that's why the fight or flight reaction is important, fear serves as the trigger for it. Unnecessary fear is what should be overcome though. And if you make your fear in to an entity rather than just something that is no bigger than you are, because its just in your mind, then it will be something to fear. Being forced to do something you're afraid of won't cut it, you have to know that in situation X there is nothing to be afraid of. Honestly it is hard to just change what you believe on simple thought alone. That's the reason why people always face their fears when it matters most. Honestly, though its not important enough to get worked up over, and I'm not going to ridicule him for it. Just pointing out the fact that if he's looking for a good time, its always potentially there.
Edit: You people seem to believe that you can't change your mentality, and if a fear is there then it will always be there until something comes along and changes it. If that were true and fears are these constant walls you make them out to be, then you would probably be scared every night because you'd be afraid there is monsters under your bed.
