So, uh.. I can hardly even start Windows Live now without it freezing on me at random. It's really frustrating. It didn't use to happen, but now it's hard to have conversations.
The worst is that if I have it open, it can freeze without my knowing it and I'll stay "online" and never get the messages people send me.
Any ideas on how to fix it? @_@

Sounds like a wlcomm.exe failure or something. Did you recently defrag your hard drive/crash or forcefully closed MSN (i.e. End Process via task manager).
One of those may have possibly corrupted it and makes it not very nice.
Alternatively, it may be a MSN cache problem, which can be caused by the above. Don't remember which, but I definitely had this problem last year. Either way, your best bet to fix it is by completely uninstalling MSN via standard uninstalling then by deleting the leftovers that uninstallers don't completely remove 'just in case' you want to reinstall it later. Usually involves an amusing scavenger hunt through your appdata and program files folder and blindly deleting anything that involves Windows live Messenger or whatever MSN stood for.
Oh right. Once completely uninstalled, just reinstall it. That may or may not fix the problem.

After I reinstalled my OS I copy/pasted my cache from my old OS's install. Could that have caused it?
It would have been hell without all my display pics and smilies, so that's why I did it.
edit: Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Strangely though, I still have my log-in names and passwords stored but nothing else. I'll have to check at some point.
Using aMSN for now though...

Had the problem a little while ago...
Fixed it by doing the following:
Go into Internet Explorer's settings. Under the Connections tab, click on LAN settings.
Uncheck "Automatically detect settings".
> (I really have no idea how does relates to Messenger's functionality but found it somewhere online.
Forgot the source but the many other results could prove as other sources.)
And if that doesn't do it.. there may be a way to make the scavenger hunt Tatsu mentioned a little more bearable. Perhaps CCleaner could be used to look for obsolete registry entries if it's the registry with problems rather than the Windows Live Messenger files and folders.
Additionally, rather than uninstalling and reinstalling, I believe Windows Live Essentials 2009 also had a repair function when choosing the option to Uninstall/Change it. Maybe this could analyse for the issue?
P.S. You could try upgrading to 2011 to avoid having similar problems in the future.

Yeahhhh... 2011 is a downgrade, if anything. @_@
After my reinstall/cache wipe, it hasn't froze yet. So, maybe it's fixed.

Damn it.... It hadn't frozen for days, but it froze again. :worry:
