I need some clarification with Alchemy.
You can use advance magic with Alchemy (Fireball, Thunder or Ice Spear) even if you never learned those magic in the first place.
If that is true, I feel sorry for people who spend all the time trying to find the pages for Thunder, Fireball and Ice Spear.

It takes ages to load your cylinder with a charge, the crystals are expensive if you want them to be any good, you have to rank alchemy mastery for ANY chance at higher damage, and the attacks are entirely half-assed. Trust me, you have NO idea how terrible alchemy versions of Adv magic are.
Not even worth it.

Oh no. Trust me.
Alchemic Advance Spells are incredibly inefficient to do without the actual spells.
1. You need the spells to make the crystals. To make a crystal you need to charge that spell with your wand. You kill your wand durability, MP, AND your cylinder durability when you use it later.
2. Crystals are ranked, and the highest rank you can get is the rank of the spell you have. This determines your damage.
3. You need to increase your mana forming rank AND alchemy mastery to be able to actually get damage out of those crystals.
4. The highest damage you can achieve even with all these conditions met is 80%.
5. All the effort you go through, and all the loses you put up with, and the result is actually a DECREASE in damage.
Basically, even people WITH IS, TH, FB doesn't use this often. It tends to be a huge waste. Economy-wise, they're too costly to trade around, and since one crystal is only one shot, you're not going to get someone selling it often. You might make some for your friends, but why would they max out Mana Forming if they don't have an Advanced Spell?
Also, the time it takes to charge one of these... its so high that you can only do it in a party or as your starting attack.
You're better off sticking to normal spell casting.
tl;dr version: IT SUCKS.

The only situation I can see this useful is for rafting.

r9 Thunder crystals are a godsend for rafting as a giant with no advance magic (or normal magic, while we're at it.) I have no plans to use the crystals on my elf though; I might make some for ice mines perhaps.
They have their uses especially in long dungeons where the lower damage is sufficient and you don't want to use tons of mana pots. Alternatively, they give someone without magic ranks but with good alchemy ranks access to the wonderful crowd control that is advance magic.

Juno, how well are the crystals when rafting on a giant, just want to know in more detail if it was any good.

I can definitely see Giants using it more often, especially since their mana pool is lower.

A r9 5 charge Thunder usually takes care of business. In order to make those you can have r6 thunder and rF crystallization, though it'd be annoying with the low success rate. It's not as good as actually having thunder, but if you're experienced with rafting you can still cap your rewards 2/3 legs. It definitely works well enough that I'm not tempted to actually get/train thunder just for rafting.

I dunno, I think Alchemy Adv. Magic can be useful as a back up when you run out of mana or don't want to switch to your wand. It does suck in comparison to the actual Adv. Magic and it only becomes useful if you can make your own crystals, but it's still nice to have in case of emergencies. It's also nice if your just trying it out, but that's a different issue entirely.

Ah, cool. I still think I'm just going to get thunder anyway.

If I use Alchemy Thunder, does it count towards ranking my Thunder Skills?

I don't think it does you have to use your actual thunder skill to rank it.

It doesn't count towards using alchemy to attack an enemy, though I don't know if it counts for adv magic skill training.

No, it does not count as alchemy adv. magic crystals to use for thunder/ice spear/fireball training.
