Well, I'm planning on beefing up my computer, but I'm wondering if just buying a new computer would be better and maybe cheaper.
For upgrades, I'm thinking of buying:
-AMD - Black Edition Deneb Phenomâ„¢ II X4 Processor 965 (Quad 3.4Ghz 4 x 512 KB L2 Cache 6 MB L3 Cache)
-XFX - ATI RADEON HD 4650 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
-A 2 GB RAM Stick
It all adds up to around $320, but I don't know if buying a new computer would end up being better. Seems that upgrading is cheaper if I keep Vista, but Windows 7 also improves performance, which might help... Any ideas and/or suggestions?
Edit: Current setup is Single 2.7Ghz AMD, 2 GB RAM, and nVidia GeForce 6150LE 430 something.

*Buy* windows 7. Then upgrade.

Does Windows 7 have a lot over Vista, or would it be less helpful than a new processor/RAM/Gfx?

The combination of both would be best, but I bet a good upgrade would do more.
Personally, I think win7 is really nice, but I hated winvista.

You need to have a really good computer (and a few registry hacks) to run Vista properly. The computer I still use runs Vista flawlessly. Windows 7 is, in a sense, a cleaner version of Vista and overall outperforms Vista, but the clunky interface really bothers me so I'm gonna stick with Vista until I can recreate my skin hack for Windows 7.

Vista SP2 is almost on par with windows 7. If you have a good computer, you won't be able to tell much of a difference between the 2.

Just build your own.
You can get so much better and you won't have to buy new stuff for it later.

You are than stuck with a limited warranty offered by only the company, and the temporary warranty offered by the retail or online store.
If you do buy a computer, I'd suggest iBuyPower, mainly because I've dealt with them since they opened (Shortly after VoodooPC stopped being good :'(). They offer prices better than Dell/HP, with better parts, better service, and a better warranty (Their warranty is worth paying for if you extend it as well).
For around ~720-800, you can build a high quality PC (Take one of the lower priced ones, and build on it is what I generally do).

Buy a computer.
Now you have two computers. Use one for storage, downloads, multimedia, etc.
Use new one for gaming and school.
