I'm curious about this, actually. I do recall that in the healthcare debate, Massachusetts was used as an example of a common sense healthcare implementation. Yet you seem to hate it, so I'd like your perspective. And shouldn't you have the healthcare system to thank for having those nice hospitals--at least in part? I don't remember how the system there worked, so feel free to enlighten me.
Obama's healthcare reform sucks only because it didn't go far enough. It achieves the goal of helping make healthcare more available, but there needs to be much more stronger reforms in place...or else it's just free money for the insurance business. Sadly, that's all he could do given the messed up political system, even though he had control of the house and senate. :(
Well, my parents won't tell me the details, but what I know is:
a.) My dad's boss stopped buying health insurance for his workers because the price was outrageous.
b.) So we lost health insurance for a few months, including dental insurance. My mom got new insurance from her work, but it has less benefits, costs more money, and we lost dental insurance. I didn't go to the dentist for almost 3 years, yo.
c.) Err'thing is expensive. The state insured 2% of the population (which isn't that many people), insurance premiums became the highest in the country, and like every other state, we're crunched for money. Granted, if you're fortunate enough to not have health problems, you're probably not affected as much, but we spend lots o' $$$ on my dad's medicine.
Also, you get taxed for not having health insurance.
But mostly, the plan was geared towards those below the poverty line. It also mandates that companies with more than 10 full-time employers must pay a "reasonable and fair contribution" towards their healthcare.
ionno, that's all I could figure out. now, you've got me interested.
