Something like a Alchemic enhancement mode skill,
You pick 1 out of 4 Modes, Water, Fire, Wind or Earth and the element you pick will have it's Damage and effectiveness increased for a set amount of time.
Same thing with Mages Besides the elements are Ice, Fire, Lightning and Healing.
For Mages, I'd say it could easily be more creative.
Off the top of my head...
Three modes:
Compression: Gives extra defensive capabilities. Hugely buffs Mana Shield, and other support-type spells, but results in taking longer to cast offensive magic, for slightly less damage. However, Healing and Party Healing can now be used as medium/low-strength offensive magic.
Flow: Enables remote teleporting as though the player was using Final Shot or Silent Move. Decreases cast time of spells, but also decreases damage done by the spells slightly. Increases running speed.
Focus: Allows the player to wield an extra 1~2 magic weapons, and thus allows them to perform more spells at once. However, Mana cost increases, and because the Mage is so focused on offense, all Support Spells are weakened and incoming damage is increased.
