Why are they proposing this tax?
to save paper journalism companies
which should be dead already
The Internet is no longer something that would screw up your phone or slow to load webpages
btw
consumer electronics are Xbox, Ps3s, computers, ipads, iphones etc.

5% on like a $500 iPad would be $25.....
Aren't electronics expensive enough :\

Wait what?
General sales tax already applies to electronics.
Its 7.5% here, and I got slammed hard by it.
So what is this? ADDING 5%? Or limiting it to 5%?
Adding 5% is just retarded. Thats not going to make us turn to Newspapers and Journals instead of reading on our phones and devices. The only thing this will do is litter money.

It would look the same way taxes are on alchohol. You pay sales tax, and an additional tax on top of that.
If this gets passed, theres going to be a lot of angry consumers.

Hopefully it doesn't get passed
electronics are already expensive as they are
and the cat is sure Obama wouldn't want taxes for his black Nintendo Wii.

I'm going to keep updated.
Buy my stuff BEFORE the tax is fully placed.

6% Sales tax here already so this would not be good ._. Have to go to Delaware if I want to buy things without any sales tax. D:

Someone needs to inform them that it's too late to save paper journalism. Society has already adjusted to electronics and this won't do anything.

Why save paper journalism? Isn't the government always whining about being green? In case they were unaware electronic reading material doesn't chop down trees.
Also it's too late, any media company who has not adapted to the digital age is screwed and that's too bad for them.

Gosh, don't they know basic economics? :( The addition of taxes causes a net loss in supply demand economy, etc. Why bother saving outmoded industries and cut potential profits in sectors that are doing 'well'? This is a consumer and service nation, not a charity for businesses that can't stay afloat by themselves. And man, 5+8.75 new york tax would be killer...

Imagine this over where I live, our sales tax is 15%. Horrible enough as it is, 100$ costs you 115$ instead.
