There's a limited colour selection, but even that is already pretty large.
Cloth on most armor comes in a large variety of colours, metal usually is restricted to shades of grey and gold. Leather usually stays within shades of brown.
Pretty sure that parts like metal or cloth have very strong tendencies to be certain colors (grey/silver/gold for metal. brownish for leather) but not really restricted to those color ranges. I've seen nearly pure red, green, and black on the usually blue part of eagle's heart; pure red on the blades of swords that are normally pure silver; pure white on leather and on broken ash cloth; and plenty of other unusual gear/color combinations long before they released amps.

It varies between equipment/equipment sets. Vindictus DB used to have a tab in the equipments' pages where it shows possible colors you can get from gold dyeing, but that was removed when the ampoules arrived I think, that and/or it might've been too many possible combinations to keep track of. Shame, I really wish they kept it since I want to see and know the possible "natural" dyes that certain gear come in like do the Mist Runner Plate Boots naturally have colors outside of shades of red fur and gold plating [S](Well there is that one pic there that was uploaded back in April that shows white fur, but I assume that's a very rare color.)[/S] or can the Fallen Rock Helmet's hair be blue without having to use an amouple? It's stuff like this that makes me wish there were more talks about the fashion aspect of Vindi, even if it's only a little more. [S](I could post tons of questions about this all day, but I doubt anybody here will answer them, especially when I remember asking a few questions I asked over in Mabi Questions that never got answered.)[/S]
I'm 99.99999% sure that VindiDB's item color tab was simply listing color combinations that have appeared on the marketplace board. It wouldn't be isolating gold dye colors, so that feature became useless once amps came out.
