Instead of locking them, why not just move them to bean rua, most of the time it's because of old mabinogi/vindi talk or questions so it would give them potential to be answered.
This wouldn't be an excuse for us to necro threads but it gives them the potential to have their questions answers without making a new thread and blocking new threads.
YES. You're supposed to make a new thread but most of the members who come here and necro threads is because they searched a question on google or something and they expect to find their answer on THAT thread.
It doesn't happen too often so would it really be that hard to move them to bean rua.
Just to be nice to potential new members.

Because the purpose of locking threads is because the topics are often irrelevant at this point.
As new information comes out, a thread say about speculation for a new skill that's out by now becomes unnecessary.
If there's some new point that wasn't covered while the thread was alive that warrants necroing, it also warrants a new thread.

What about commenting on videos/pictures and things like that?
It's such a hassle to repost the whole thread when it IS still relevant just to avoid necro posting.

Just because a member is new doesn't mean they don't have to follow the rules.

These aren't the ones that usually get locked, but do you really need to necro to say, "Cool pix bro"
Personally, I don't mind necro. I don't even understand how it's a problem. But people get their panties up in a bunch over it.

Because it's being nice when a new member necros a thread and it winds up in Bean Rua, where more people can post all the bullsh*t they want without getting in trouble. I don't see any difference between moving it to Bean Rua and locking it other than it makes the problem worse.

I don't really like the necro-rule but it is what we have, though it has never been really discussed in too much depth between the staff.
If it was up to me necroing would just be ok or not depending on common-sense, posting on a sell/buy thread after 2 years = no. Posting short-meaningless comments on an old thread = no. Actual meaningful reply on a discussion = yes. Got a question and there's a thread about it already and just want to expand on the original question even if it is old? = yes.
and etc...
But anyway, moving them into bean rua seems like a bad idea, messing with post-counts, taking them out of where they belong, just doesn't seem like a good idea.

I mean like, I'd like exceptions made for some of them. but for the most part I don't care.

I don't mind necro posting at all, as long as it contributes... I'd rather not have the rule. If someone bumps a year dead thread with "lol i agree" or something, then yeah that's bad... but not if there's a legitimate post and the topic is still relevant...
Anyways, it's not up to me.

That guide I saw for the first time today(i think) on how to get controllers working for Vindictus is a perfect example.

If it has enough content & elaboration to allow a necro, it can have its own thread.
Most of the time necros are just "lol I agree" or "cool". To prevent these more common and useless ones, we just ban the whole thing.
Plus, once the thread gets locked, if the user's question is still valid, they can go make another thread.

Necros don't count in Guide sections.

And add a link to the currently existing thread.
It's bothersome, but if you really want to elaborate on it or whatever, it should be worth the effort.
