So I was looking through the guides here on Mabination, and I noticed a lack of good spirit weapon feeding guides. This guide doesn't contain anything we more experienced players don't already know, but I figured it could be very useful to any new players browsing through. I know I was extremely grateful to have read it when I first found it around 2 years ago, and luckily after all this time nothing much has really changed.
DISCLAIMER: I did not write this guide, all credit goes to Skybon, originally posted on Nexon forums. I only edited the wording to take out parts where he addressed specific people. None of the actual content was changed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First and foremost rule, only feed your spirit with items between 1~999gold. For the fastest efficiency, feed it the most expensive but not more than base price 1000.
Second of all, feed your ego at stage 1~4 Unhappy until it reaches Fine. Stop at Fine.
Why 1~999gold and Why "For the fastest efficiency, feed it the most expensive but not more than base price 1000."?
There's a technical answer for this part. I can explain this to you; if you want to know the answer, please check Part 2...
Base Price is the price of an item at an NPC with no discounts - Filia discounts or Wednesday discounts. (e.g. A lute (normally 1000 gold) is being sold for 900gold at Filia if you're allied at Elves; however, it does not count as an item for 1~999gold item).
It is efficient to buy things at Filia because they have discounts there. Not to worry, it won't decrease the experience your ego would receive just because the item is discounted; it will still receive the same exp at a cheaper value compared to other shops.
Also note, based on my experiences and a few statistics, it's better to have your STR level 35 before focusing on other stats. Why? Because if you freakin' don't have level 35 STR, you're better off using upgraded/enchanted weapon which has almost the same damage as a level 30 STR one. However, I suggest maxing out STR first. After STR maxed, I suggest Will for durability increase and a minor increase for max damage; then, Luck for more critical and also a minor increase for max damage.
For your convenience, I posted here the Specific Weapon Class and Gender and the best food to give for your ego. I will also include some Filia items that could save some bit of your pocket.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Start Off:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few Notes:
As much as possible feed items that cost 800g~900g.
The best ones are Ladles, Cooking Knife, Sandals, Sasha Robes, Cores' Thief Gloves, and different number Signs.
Wands aren't complete due to lack of information, but please try out ^these items^ for your own.
You will see some "or"s in my recommendation; that's because i want to list out an item from Filia too; which might be a good deal for other people even though it's not as fast as the other one which can't be bought at Filia.
For my own convenience regarding the number signs, which are limited sales from Price, I put M for Monday, T for Tuesday, et cetera.

A detailed explanation why "1~999gold" item and why "For the fastest efficiency, feed it the most expensive but not more than base price 1000."
First thing's first. Here's general knowledge. Whenever the Ego diminishes the appetite (wants to chat / wants an item), it loses a "100%" value on its hunger.
Here's another basic knowledge.
1g~999g base price items restore back 20% value on its appetite.
40% for 1,000g~1,999g.
60% for 2,000g~2,999g.
80% for 3,000g~3,999g.
100% for 4,000g and above.
Here's an observatory knowledge from Sky.
The more expensive the item, the lower EXP:Gold Ratio. Meaning, the higher the price, the less the EXP.
(e.g.): An item costs 400g base price gives 50EXP on lvl30 STR. Another item costs 800g base price gives 80EXP on lvl30 STR.
The relation for the cheaper item is 400g:50EXP -> 8g:1EXP. Meaning, for every 8 gold, you gain 1 EXP.
The relation for the more expensive item is 800g:80EXP -> 10g:1EXP. Meaning, for every 10 gold, you gain 1 EXP.
Now you ask, Can't we just feed them with, like, 100g items?
Yes, you can. However, the time it requires to afk just to level up once on a stat dramatically increases. Instead of just ego feeding for a total of 100 hours with the more expensive ones, you'll need to ego feed for a total of maybe 200 hours.
Then, you'll ask, Okay, I get your point about feeding it with more expensive items in relation to the time it requires. But why did you say, "for the fastest efficiency, feed it the most expensive but not more than base price 1000?"
Why not? Jk jk. But seriously, just as I've pointed out above, ego gets hungry and loses 100% appetite.
How do you fill it back up? With 5 pieces of 1~999g items, or with 2 pieces of 1,000~1,999 items and 1 piece of 1~999g item?
Then, apply also the rule as I've stated before, "the higher the price, the less the EXP." 2 pieces of 900g item, most likely, will give higher exp than 1 piece of a 1,900g item.
And lastly, apply my last argument - time. Instead of feeding 5 pieces of 600g item, feed it with 5 pieces of 900g items. Time spent on ego feeding to level up a stat will most likely reduced by one-fourth, if not, one-third.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a question raised regarding Filia discount prices - relation to - EXP gives, I'd like to prove a bit of why.
The base price is different. You'll notice there's a difference. E.g. in Elen (360g base price) and in Osla (500g base price). If you want to know the base price of items at Filia, you can go and try seeing their price when you're not allied to them (regular price).
The discount at Filia is like the Wednesday discounts. They don't change the base price of the item. However, when there's a difference between different NPCs (like Elen-Osla thing i said up there), the experience will change.

Looks good, but seems a bit short. While it is true that the most efficent way to feed your ego is through 999g items or less, events such as the iria treasure hunt event or many others give out items worth 40k or higher, which can be up to a 10% boost(i think) in stats. For example, feeding my ego stuff from the event worth 60k+ was giving my ego a 10% boost in social at level 15.
Also, gems can be a great way to feed your ego. While its true you could just sell them, obtaining them from doing your own metalurgy is free and fairly easy.
Feeding monkeys are also great for ego food, they give lots of items worth 30k or more, and 3cm gems.

This is the most cost efficient way not the fastest. if you don't care about money buying 2+cm diamonds will always win in speed and you'll get all stats at the same time. Of course the money difference is very significant depending on your servers diamond price.

Unfortunately, small gems are time inefficient (at least when raising a single stat) when under 5cm. Unless you just happened to find one at a good price(like free from metallurgy), you're better off just spamming 999 items as they'll likely also be more cost effective.
The same applies to expensive items. If there isn't a good market for it but it has a high NPC value (tipping suits, for example) it would be a good idea to feed it to your spirit weapon. You probably shouldn't shell out gold for expensive ego food as the return on investment will be unsatisfactory especially when compared to similarly priced alternatives, which would probably also be faster.
Diamonds are unique because every stat receives the same base EXP. This results in rapid social level growth. Unfortunately diamonds are both rare and highly expensive. Few people can afford to legitimately purchase diamonds these days. If you can afford them, you won't find better ego food out there.
Cost/Time Efficiency
If you're looking for fast experience gain, I recommend against metallurgy. You can't hunt for gems while your spirit weapon is out. The potentially higher quality ego food recovered from that skill won't make up for the time spent on the beach. If you're looking for free experience or intend to also collect ore, it's a good option.

Yea, small gems arent so great for it. I was mostly thinking of events like the one we just had that give out expensive items frequently making them nice for ego feeding.
But what i was really thinking is that you could list alternate ways to feed your ego. While the method you said is the most commonly used and basicly the best, there are people with lots of money looking for a way to use it to pump there ego perhaps, or people with so little money they cant afford even this and need a way to keep there ego happy.
What you have got looks perfect though. I just hate hunting price for 7signs, but i think ima do that today and fill a few pets with the signs for aries lol.

I like to analogy feeding expensive items vs. 1~999 items as race cars vs. hybrid cars.
These race cards can pull up to speeds twice of hybrid cars as well as have the ability to accelerate faster than hybrid cars.
Hybrid cars takes time to accelerate compared to the race cars but also can't go very fast.
While the race cars can reach destination point A faster, it has already consumed a lot of gas, making it expensive.
Meanwhile, when hybrid car reach destination point A, it has consumed anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 less gas than the race car for the same distance. It may reached the end goal much slower than the race car, but it was very efficient in terms of gas use.
In a sense, feeding it 999 gold items is the hybrid while feeding it very expensive items are race cars. You may get to the end goal faster, but in the end, you may spend 2x-3x more in total to reach the same goal as the hybrid car faster.
Then again, Spirit Weapons are suppose to be a child you raise over time.
Though those with disposable income can choose to advance it further than expected.

It actually takes a Prius over 240k miles into break even with a Hummers fuel consumption due to all the fuel used in its production(parts are shipped back and forth overseas 3-4 times) and the cost is reduced by heavy subsidies. So while your analogy works your example of a hybrid doesn't(since most hydrids have the same issues as the Prius. (Sorry I always point this out)
If you take out the subsidies its cheaper to buy a Hummer if you drive it for less than 200k miles (which is usually true).
Back on topic: Spirit weapons still need a revamp. For the time/cost involved most non ego's still well outclass them. Cept of of course the Iron mace. Egos should have a damage and critical factor superior to all non egos by all 40 stats and have a significant advatage over them for all 50.

I think one of the greater buffs to ego would be to change the feeding system a bit. Like have a feeding mode options in which egos get hungry faster and more often but cannot be used in combat, and to switch from feeding mode to active mode there be a 36 minute cooldown between the two to not be abused.
I would also like it if the requirements to the next level cost less exp and that items gives more exp.

I just feed mine free gems from the metallurgy area (bot metallurgy all over).
Thus, my ego is stuck at all stats being between levels 25-32, but feeding is really cheap. Practically costs nothing, even though it is slow.
It's true that getting Str to 35 first is important, but when you are in a situation like mine, you just want to raise everything to get the max/min additions.

I've been curious, but I thought getting to at least str level 40 the very least should be the minimum before raising other stats?
Many people told me to aim for level 50 str first, but it seems from level 40~50 (if you were to just to feed sandals for female sword ego) would not only take 2 weeks and a half of 24/7 feeding but to go from level 40 to 50 is almost roughly 18 mil worth of sandals, whereas getting to level 40 only took 10 mil.

Yay for misleading metrics, vagueness, and bad analogies.
I am assuming in some way you are referring to the
Dust to Dust report published by CNW marketing research back in '07.
In that report, it was stated that the cost per mile over the life time (from drawing board to scrap heap) of the vehicle was:
Prius: $3.249
H1: $3.505
H2: $3.027
H3: $1.949
If we assume that the science in the report is accurate, we find the premise of your analogy completely fails vs the H1. But you were vague when you used the general term "hummer"
So, let's take a look at the life time miles used in that report:
Prius: 109,000
H1: 379,000
H2: 197,000
H3: 207,000
Removing the per mile metric we find the total cost over the lifetime of the vehicle to be:
Prius: $354,250
H1: $1,328,395
H2: $396,319
H3: $403,443
The prius is cheaper than all the hummers.

Your information is pretty accurate. It'll cost you around 18-20 mill using 999 items to pass from 40 to 50 strength. My spirit crossbow has 45 strength and each item gives around 0.04% out of 100.00% experience. If you feed 24/7 it would actually take around a month to jump from 40 to 50 strength. Unless you bot, it'll realistically take around a week to two weeks per stat above 40.
The order in which you train specific stats is dependent on your spirit weapon. The crossbow and leather long bow (for example) gain little min/max from stats other than strength. The ring bow and wing bow, on the other hand, gain a massive amount of min/max from stats other than strength. That's the main reason why there are so many lackluster ring/wing bows. The owner has to raise everything evenly to compete with alternative weapons (excluding the fashionobi ego owners).
The majority of weapons would most benefit from raising strength to 40 and everything else to 30. I recommend that you do not cap any skill at 50 until you have at least strength/luck/willpower at level 45-49 as any extra experience from diamonds/gems/etc would be wasted and you may not cap the weapon at r1 Spirit Awakening (though this mostly applies to female swords).

It seems like getting to level 40 str for 10 mil sounds pretty efficient.
The info whom I got it from was from a friend who admitted he used a script to feed it 24/7 while he's sleeping and at work. I remember he was standing by Malcolm all day just feeding the thing for almost two months.
So when he claimed he went from level 40~50 in a little under 3 weeks, it seemed a bit unbelievable until he said he botted.
