Does anyone know any good ones? I can't find the installation CD and stuff for the Norton I used to use, since my computer got screwed over and reprogrammed like, three times.
I don't like to run around without antivirus, somehow my computers tend to die on me.
Helphelp? :sigh:

Isn't there a thread with all the recommended tools, including free anti-virus?

I have paid for antivirus, and it's supposed to last until December, but I can't find the installation CD.

Avg free, Malwarebytes and Ad-Aware are all free I think, these programs are what I'm using on this computer, but on my personal computer I use AVG Free and I never get any viruses or the like.

AVG Free if you want something free and decent.
Also Norton is crap. I uninstalled it and my computer literally doubled in speed.

Yeah me too. Although the interface and the program overall is more aesthetically pleasing.

Avast is wonderful. I've used it for a while, and it's pretty darn good.

Another vote for avast. I've used both it and AVG. Found avast to be more streamlined.

Avast is better than most free options.
If anyone is interested, and do decide to go for a paid software, get Nod32. Kaspersky is really inefficient during scans, whereas Nod32 keeps resources minimal.

The best free security software
That site will direct you to the best of the best in terms of free software for Antiviruses, Firewalls, and Malware protection. Contrary to popular belief, because something is free doesn't mean it's bad.
Avira is definitely the best I have used and I'm giving it my recommendation, using very little memory with a lot of output; however, you need to learn how to program it. Once you do it runs like clock work. It does live up to the 99% score it was given.
Avast! is a close second where it's extremely user friendly. Once it's installed everything is working just in a snap. Not to mention compatibility.
To follow either those two I recommend using
Comodo as a firewall for added support. Another low memory program and it's a great firewall which usually fills up the holes made by free anti-virus software. However,
Malwarebytes is a must for scanning. Avast!'s scanning often over looks quite a bit and is usually just slow in general, Malwarebytes can check my entire system in 40 minutes picking up spares that slip by the libraries of Avast! or Avira.
