I'm kinda happy that they are taking user suggestions (e.g. quest/personalised inventory) seriously for Mabi.
You guys don't realise that the fanfic you post to the main website also means giving them the rights to use your content?
It would definitely be proper for them to reward the user, to take a ride on the media wave that this is all generating.
It's really good publicity for Devcat.

So if I imagine something and never tell anyone about it, then it pops up can I claim credit for it?

Having to apologize after various users reported them for plagiarism doesn't exactly sounds as good publicity to me.

Well they didn't go about it correctly. It looks like they tried to do it under the table.

If I was in this situation, I would ask for some sort of compensation for using my story for profit. Even if it's just 10% of the profits that come as a result of that new story...

10% is a
lot of money.
And the story doesn't really count for a lot when you think about all the other content, as well. It hardly deserves 10% of profits.

The story is actually a kind of big deal. I'm not one of the types to really read into it like some others do, but
at the very least it sets up the environment, which in turn sets up the monsters and potential bosses. It might not be "everything", but it's certainly a lot of things.

If we are just looking at the overall publicity it generates, what doesn't matter was the plagiarism. It was how they handled it.
An official statement on the issue and a compensation in the talks was the best thing they could do and they did it. It salvages their reputation (even if by a bit) and brings in interested people to look at the game.
I do agree with you guys that to copy ideas without crediting in the very first place looks very bad. Hopefully if they are going to do the same thing again, they will obtain the rights first and then create the publicity for it.

The work gone into the actual gameplay is worth a
lot more than just a story.

I agree with kazuni on this one. The story might be good but if the implementation sucks, it fails.

Recently, it was uncovered by players that the story of the new patch " God of Formors " was actually the creation of a user DC마ì¼ë“œ,
and today, the GM has admitted and apologized for the unauthorized use of users contents as the game content,

they are still under consultation for the compensation.
It is all over the media now, here's one of article:

That's true.
I'm just saying the story sets the groundwork and thus affects everything in ways that are tough to measure. I think it's very reasonable to assume that it accounts for at least 10% of it, though, in games like Vindictus. In other games where environments/different monsters aren't a very big deal, it's even less important. But as it is, the difference between Ainle, Hoarfrost Depths and the sewers is the environment and a bit of difficulty. Boats might as well just be portals to new worlds.

was this story posted in suggestions page in the Korean site? or was it just on a general discussion page? Either way if you post something in a game's forums that means you're giving the developers the right to use that in their own discretion without asking for any profit or reward from it. But i do agree that they should have at least given credits to the story creator.
EDIT: But i do agree that they SHOULD have given credits to the story creator. That should be a given.

Ideas may sometimes hold more value than grunt work.
Chemists, for example, are a dime a dozen. People who lay the groundwork by inventing/isolating innovative chemicals (i.e. Aspirin, MSG..etc) however, aren't.
For anime, the author is the one who comes up with the plot and original drawings. For the production of the actual anime, a bunch of animators and redrawers are hired. They wouldn't have anything to work off of without the author though.

How interesting. I wonder how it will play out when it comes here to our version of Vindictus.
If I were the person who came up with the story, I would be ecstatic. Some credit would be nice, but then again wouldn't everyone be
bugging Nexon/DevCat with their own story ideas. I would think it would be best if it had remained hush-hush, but I suppose in hindsight
that would be impossible.
