And Fynl, yeah that is a bad stereotype. I just wanted that "college experience" y'know? But I'll make due.
Depends on what you mean by college experience.
Another bad stereotype that I remember from high school is that going to college is all about freedom, parties, and girls. So many people from high school went for those reasons and so many dropped out soon after.
Basically, having a degree will make you more money most of the time, but if it's a negligible amount (like my carpenter/mechanic example earlier), it'd be mostly useless.

I just sorta wanted to be in a dorm, like try to live by myself see how it goes. That sort of thing.

Ah. Goes along with the freedom thing.
I always recommend to people to pay rent to their parents as opposed to trying to live in a dorm. I've known people that live, 5-10 mins away from campus that dorm just to live life without their parents. The end result is that with the loans they built up from the extra costs, they end up going back home after graduation anyway.

16k per year.
I took out the initial 16k. Hoping I can try to find my way out of the debt game before my first year ends.
I'm hoping to clear out the other 3 years so I don't have to borrow 64k. With my 6% variable interest I could get my ass raped by graduation if I did.
Even with a job, paying that off will be a huge pain in the ass that will last a good decade.

Meh, if you get scholarships the first year, they'll slowly shrink. If you don't, then you better be the top in your class :\

Dang. :O
My parents aren't that rich. Living with them means I don't have to pay for living expenses during or after, though.

Still, if you want a chance at that better life, college and beyond is still the best way to go.
It's best if one doesn't see college as a gamble, but as a static investment.

They're not paying it, I am Dx
I also have to pay them rent but it's a lot less than living on my own and it includes food and stuff, so taking advantage of it as much as I can D:
Once student loan is gone I want to start working on moving out.

Oh, I see! Well, I don't know if I can do that either. My parents don't know if they want to stay in the United States, and I don't want to leave. It would be better for me if they waited until I was stable financially, which so far, they're willing to do. Still, thinking about it is..igh.
