  It's a 100 gold, minimum increments, meaning that the least amount of gold you can bid can be no less than the previous offer +100, to prevent people from going:
  
  Person A: I bid 100 gold on Item X.
  Person B: I bid 101 gold on Item X.
  Person C: I bid 102 gold on Item X.
  Person A: I bid 102 gold on Item X. *Edit: Dammit, ninja'd, in that case I bid 103 gold on Item X.

  So the cat bidding 1400 more gold than your bid is certainly more than the 100 he needed to bid on the item.
