I wouldn't bother becoming a Jedi if I have to give up love. Sure, having all those abilities would be nice to have, but they aren't necessary, and there aren't many things out there greater than the feeling of having a mutually loving relationship with another person.
As for everyone saying that they'll become a Jedi only to become a Dark Jedi, you guys must not have read the OP clearly. Mop said that if you were to get the powers, you are to become a Jedi. If you want the powers, you have to sacrifice love and emotions, and become nothing more than a drone whose mission is nothing more than "balancing" the universe by wiping out all the evil in it without any consideration on what would happen to the good in the process. So, for the sake of this topic, you can't become a Dark just so you can have all the Jedi abilities plus the freedom to do whatever you want. [s]Plus besides, you don't even have to be a Jedi to become a Sith. The Sith were originally an actual species that were wiped out long before the events of Star Wars (including KOTOR), and what we know as the Sith are only a group of people that believe in the same philosophy as the original Sith, in that you must acquire power by any means necessary. Sure, there may be fallen Jedi/Force sensitive among the ranks of the Sith, but the Dark Jedi are by no means the only Sith in the universe. In fact, I'm sure that a good 99.9999999% of the Sith were in fact regular people with no ability to tap into the Force, and only believed in the ways of the original Sith.

So again, if you were given the opportunity to get all of the powers of a Jedi, at the cost of having to uphold the fact that you're not allowed to show emotions (not just love), would you take that offer up, or just continue being a regular person.

Wait...it seems we're talking about the Republic Jedi. They definitely follow those rules. Now the rebuilt Jedi that come around after Vader is dead and Palpatine overthrown aren't nearly so strict (Luke builds the Jedi Academy and trains others in the ways of the force after Episode 6 FYI). Infact he has a wife named Mara Skywalker and a son named Ben Skywalker (this turns into quite a lengthy family line later). Also Leia, who also becomes a Jedi does end up Marrying Han Solo. So my point being, Jedi's are allowed to express love and even marry, just not the Jedi of the Republic. I'm not quite sure of the Old Republic but I assume they had the same code as the Republic.

Old Republic has the same code unless something occured in KOTOR 2 that I am not aware of.
@Compass: His marriage was hidden but his love is what lead him to the dark side.

Do Siths have to be evil?

A non evil Sith is basically a rogue force user.

That depends on what you consider evil.

"Good is a point of view, Anakin." -- Palpatine
I honestly don't know. But considering who I am, I'd probably one of those "rogues". I refuse to give up my emotions (I live by them, after all), but neither can I do what most(?) Sith masters would tell me to do.

Wouldn't become a Jedi if I had to give up my emotions. Since we're also talking about becoming either a Jedi or a Sith, or a rogue force user, I'd probably choose neither of the three and go with Bounty Hunter. Compensate my lack of force abilities with technology and guns.

Only if it meant I could exert huge positive influence on society.
Not on the conditions of a few individuals in said societies, I mean like in affect how society is organised, how government works, how they handle their fellow living beings etc.
Otherwise no way. I'd never give up being able to express affection for being powerful.
That would be the way of the Sith anyway, so...

No, they just have to be opportunistic and concentrate on gaining more power. Your tendency to rape and kill whole towns or not is completely irrelevant.

I rather be a sith. Can't I like, learn the ways and not engage in their activities?
