Coming into the third week of our Dog Days of Summer are the dainty Thunder Spaniels. Coming in either White or Dapple, these spaniels are sure to pack a serious punch with their powerful Thunder attack! Their ability to use this powerful spell seems to have enlightened these loyal hounds! No longer will they dirty their paws by walking on the earth, no! They use their ears to fly. Thunder Spaniels grow more powerful when near each other, so to increase their true potential, be sure to have a Dapple Spaniel and a White Spaniel in a party together. You will surely see their power grow!

Head over to the Web Shop and get a Thunder Spaniel of your own!
Flying dogs that cast thunder apparently.

They're probably a waste, but they sound so awesome... :(

They give a pretty decent bonus if the two types are together in a party according to wiki:
Stats increase when there is a Thunder Spaniel White in the same party, as follows:
Life +50
Mana +100
Stamina +50
Str +10
Int +20
Dex +10
Will +10
Luck +10
Dat 100 Mana.

Highest the spaniels can get is rA Thunder (9 if you use a kit, I assume). :(
HOWEVER, it seems they have a passive Meditation-like ability (I'm gonna assume they gain the mana regen without the stam halting or the movement slowing), start with 66 mana, and during ages one and two gain 1.25 mana and 1.25 int per level (though their base int is only a meager 34).
They're a little gimmicky sadly. I have yet to see a pet that can charge five stacks of a spell without the player manually controlling them, so it's likely when using them in conjunction with your char you will only be able to one-charge enemies.

Why bother with the dogs when I can do the same, and even better, by myself!

While this seems interesting, it's not really that great. Pets are absolutely awful at casting magic due to some strange AI bug.
It might be worth rebirthing my Paladin Dog into a Thunder Spaniel and then a Dark Cat should I choose to become a Dark Knight in the future. It already has like 120 mana, which would be partially recovered upon summon. That could keep me in disarm for a very long time with a healing AI.
On the other hand, pets are pretty much totally useless later on. The only exception being Thunder Storm, AOE summon and pet love-tap+kick the bucket.

Well the thing about these is that they can stack thunder if you say Thunder! Not sure in AI.
However, I'd use it for support Thunder while I'm prepping my thunder, I'll prep my Spaniel's Thunder and with it's rA thunder and my r1 Thunder...hopefully his thunder will fill in the gaps my thunder might miss.
