Once you turn 18...

  Apparently, that's what I thought when I was going through my Junior and Senior years in High School, because I was trying to work on my homework and such, but my parents doesn't give a single care about their kids anymore. Since I'm a single-parented child, my mother would randomly leave and doesn't inform me of where she goes. I would have to call my mother off the hook to find out where she's at and there would be times she doesn't give a single clue of her whereabouts. I remember staying up to 4 am at times, trying to find out my mother's whereabouts, and I have to be at school at 8 am.
  
  Now, I'm at the age of 18 and she would disappear at random times of the night to go run an errand and wouldn't come home until daybreak. Later on that day, I find out she either went gambling or went to a friend's house, didn't even bother to tell her son to lock the doors. This really lacks the trust and confidence in my mother, because it seems like the bond between us is fading away by each passing day. I believe this seems like a personal matter, but I think that's how most parent's parenting is starting to become.
  
  Is parents really that selfish these days about themselves, but not about their kids anymore? I'm not saying all parents are horrible, because there's parents that still supports their child in their decisions with their positive lifestyles. However, there's some parents out in the world that just believes at the age of 18, they're done and don't have to support their child anymore. It's basically dumping a box of kittens on the side of the road and driving away.

  It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with having messed up parents. My parents have ALWAYS ALWAYS cared about me and STILL DO! I'm 23 too >.> If I don't call after awhile my mom will call me and go you haven't called me, what's going on, how you're doing? etc etc. Something most caring parents should be doing.

  Nope. A lot of parents are different, my brother is always being babied by my mother, and he's 19 now. She literally calls him every day/other day to see how things are going, and he's only 4 hours away from home. And like parents, some kids want to get away from their parents, so turning 18 is a great thing for them.

  It true what you say, because I'm the last one born and I feel a bit awkward about it. I used to be babied; however, my mother still thinks I'm a child and doesn't need to know where she's going or anything. There's a part of me that's sick of my mother, while another part is concerned of the well-being of her. Turning 18 is great for many people, especially kids that really dealt with a harsh life with their mother/father figures.

  For me, I had a harsh life of dealing with b/s and drama from my mother's side, while not hearing much from my father's side. When I turned 18, I was ready to move out of the house and I did so for a few days, so I can teach a lesson to my mother to stop controlling my life. It got through with her head for a while, but she reverted back to her old ways in a few weeks. Now, she tries to act like I'm still a child and doesn't think I'm going to be to able to support myself in the real world.

  I think part of it might be from her thinking you're "old enough to take care of yourself" (sounds kinda cliche, I know) and assumes that you would be fine if she just left to go somewhere and/or wouldn't care much anyway. Might be making an assumption on her part, but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen someone's parent do that for that reason.

  But on that note, I get a lot less attention because my brother is younger and has special needs.
  Or, in the worst way (how I feel on a bad day), he's a little brat who can't do **** for himself, so everybody else needs to bend over backwards for him.
  
  I also get less attention because my mom knows that I can do just fine on my own. Still, it'd be nice to get all of their attention for just a few minutes every once in a while.

  Maybe you can work out something like calling her on a scheduled interval to check up on her if that makes you feel any better, or vice versa.
  
  Familial relationships work best with frequent contact and sharing. Also, it doesn't matter if you're 18 or 28, you still have emotions at that age range that she should respect because you're a legal adult. You're her child, but you're also not a baby. If she doesn't acknowledge how much you care for her, what would that mean to you in case you need her in the future for whatsoever?

  Since this is a one sided view point, I wont take no one's sides~
  Personally, I think being 18 isn't a big deal, besides being able to have access to 18+ product. Just cause people turn 18 doesnt really mean they change "instantly" (no +5 str/+2dex/+1int/+8will). I also think why alot of these high schoolars think about leaving the house and living on their own. Alot of them dont think about "what I will do after I leave my family?" "am I ready and prepared to live on my own" I see this "live on own at 18" as a bandwagon high schoolars follow (due to media). But you know how some young adults are, they always wanna rebel against their family.

  Personally I dont find that as a logical reason to live on your own. But the way I see it as your mom's POV "you are still a child" But if your mom didnt care about you, you would of been out of her house loooong time ago.
  
  BUT, what you should be thinking of when you're 18 is:
  -What I will do after highschool?
  -What career should I explore?
  -How will I take my education to the next level?
  -Where should I find my source of income?
  -Where am I going to live? (use the internet and research)
  -How much money will I require living alone vs living with family?
  -If I leave the house now, where do I see myself in the future?
  
  But at the end it depends on how serious the person is.
  
  If you are still desperate to leave the house but dont want to end up going back home, join the service.

  At some point you're expected to grow up and assume some personal responsibility. Instead of waiting for mommy to tell you to lock the door, why not lock the damn thing of your own free will?

  You're 18 years old your not 6, why do you want to be around your mom all the time?
  Your old enough to take care of yourself there's no reason why you should be complaining about not seeing her often.
  And so what if she wants to gamble and hang out with your friends? Is she not allowed to do that?
  
  Stop trying to make her seem like that bad mother, if she was she wouldn't of raised you all by herself.
  Also she's not dumping you like " a box of kittens on the side of the road and driving away." as you think she is, if she did you would of been kicked out by now.
  Seeing all the things she done for you I don't get why you have to complain about locking the door.
  
  Also if I raised a kid for 18 years I would want him to able to support himself and not come running back to me over every little problem and most importantly I would want a break from parenting.
  
  But wait that's not the point because she's still looking out for you.

  So you're complaining about not being cared about your mother yet in this post your complaining about the fact that she cares too much.
  
  Get your stories straight and as Kaeporo said you're going have to grow up.
