Looks like It's just going to knick me in Rochester. I'll have to keep an eye on this. Most I've experienced is the very tail end of a hurricane. This outta be interesting. I didn't even know a hurricane this powerful was coming this way.
Of bigger concern is my Brother stationed in Virginia. I hope the Navy keeps him safe.

Where I live on the East Coast is ~200 feet above sea level...
I feel so safe, aside from the debris.

I'm actually a bit scared.
Either way, there's no chance that it's not going to hit where I live...
I mean, it's going to be weak by the time it arrives, but what people don't understand is on the East Coast, we're not used to these kinds of natural disasters. In my town, many houses haven't got basements, and there aren't a lot of places we can go for shelter. Even when it floods we have a hard time getting the water out of our crawl space.
Sure, people scoffed at us when we felt the earthquake earlier this week. We NEVER get earthquakes over 3.0 magnitude (which you can't even feel), so of course we were scared and a bit surprised. It annoys me how some people I know who live in California and places around there acted snotty about how we all freaked out, but it's scary.
So far, this summer, MA has seen tornadoes, an earthquake, extreme heat, and lots of rain. What's next?

Never lived anywhere else other than New York. Still scoffed. People are much too scared of everything nowadays, who's going to join the army now? You see all these wimps running outside, scared about a bit of water they can most likely swim through. You see people in the Beret's, Ranger's, this is daily routine. I personally think all people need to take larger grasps at what they CAN'T see rather than what they can, it will push our human knowledges to the very limit.
Or to put it more rudely, people need to (wo)man up.

um, okay, now I feel really offended.
What the **** does any of that have to do with military? I don't even know what you're going on about, because that's not relevant.
Sorry if I seem snappish, but i'm really worried about the hurricane that's going to come rolling through my town in two days.

It's still scary for some people, so it's rude to tell to man/woman up. Let them get used to it on their own accord.
Anywhore, I'm all the way in the upper west, so. WOO. Safe.
What's funny is we're intending on moving to NY next year, though.. I guess it's good that we're not there yet.

What I'm saying is, people are too scared, easily fooled, and/or do not wish to learn more about the unknown.
And Iunno what I'm saying about the military, just that I watched Rambo during dinner and it just stuck in my head.

Can we like, trade homes or something? I want to get out of this rotten dirtbag hole they call a city.

Still, by quoting her in a post where she expressed worry and replying with
this is offensive. Especially since your post was so irrelevant, making it seem like you went out of your way to do so.
Also: the East Coast isn't predicted to experience "Autumn" weather this year. I heard we'll be going straight from Summer weather to Winter-like weather.

Well, frankly, I'd be scared of a big hurricane tearing through my city too, if I lived there.
If they were paranoid about it say, when there wasn't a hurricane, then yeah, it's stupid.
But fear isn't rational, even if your reason for fearing something is.
It's completely normal to fear things we don't know. Since there is no guarantee what might happen, can you really blame people for being scared?

Technically no, but I'm sorry, tonight has just been really trying to nag at me today, the way people are acting. I am currently in a pissed mode, carry on.

Hearing this saddens me.
I love autumn (even raking leaves, sort of), because it's so pretty and it's a moderate blend of all of the seasons.
Condemning us to an even longer dirge of winter? nty.
Also, not commenting on what was said early because now i'm in an equally terrible mood.

Considering that we went from winter to summer with no spring this year either (at least here in Vermont anyways), I'm not really surprised about that.
As for this storm, let it come. Sure, I may be living in Vermont, so if we do see anything from Irene, it'll most likely only be a tail, so we'll only get a little extra rain, which is good for here, because Vermont actually had a very dry August this year. Worst case scenario is that Irene decides to come see foliage season a little early this year, and takes a scenic route right up the Connecticut, in which case, I'm probably not going to be going to work one day, because of the rain, what with living only like a football field away from the river.

You guys didn't get any rain? Hmm, surprising.
We got a bit more rain than usual, but I didn't think we got that much.
Also yeah, I noticed an abrupt lack of spring this year. May was pretty awful around Memorial Day, it made July (except for the heatwave) look like weaksauce.
Great, my two favorite/least favorite seasons, cut out the two I like.

Do you not know how many people have died because of hurricanes?
Katrina, for instance?
