It will allow you to use sub abilities (from other classes) with your current class's main abilities.
For example, a knight class can have the ninja's "two swords" ability, time mage's teleport, and squire's counter along with knight abilities.
A monk class can have the knight's "equip armor" abiliity to be able to wear armor which used to restricted to only knights.

the only drawback is the additional grinding, you have to learn (spend points) to learn the abilities of other classes.
for example, points gained from using knight can only be used for knight abilities
points gained using from mage can only be used for mage abilities

I prefer Mabinogi class styles better. It eliminate the need to change.
Then again, there aren't really any classes in Mabinogi, lol.
There needs to be more MMORPGs that does this.

Ummm, Runes of Magic lets you take a secondary job... But the battle system is crap. You push a skill to attack, and each skill(at least I've seen), has a loading bar that appears on the bottom. It's a really big world for exploring, but the gameplay turns me off from it. I really don't wanna see a bar load each time I attack, nor do I even like those kinds of systems.

uh, DOMO does that...
You could have a Doctor use a Mercenary's Spear and all his skills, you just need to lvl up each class individuality. The battle system is not like final fantasy though.

Hmmm... FFXI (Final Fantasy 11) does the EXACT same thing.
Probably a mere coincidence.

I didn't like FF11.
But that doesn't mean they didn't have a subclass system.
