So, for a few days now, maybe a week, my internet has been running very slowly. At first I assumed it was my computer, but all of my games and the rest of the stuff on my computer run just as they did the day I bought this computer.
I've tried Opera/Firefox so I know it isn't just Opera. Media (videos, images, etc) load especially slow and webpages take 30+ seconds to load fully, if not more.
I've scanned my computer using both avast and malawarebytes and it's clean as a whistle. I recently installed Advanced System Care in hopes that it would help, but it did nothing. I cleaned out both Opera and Firefox's cookies and the works, that didn't help.
I've defrag'd my hard-drive.. also didn't help.
Tried resetting my modem and wireless router, neither helped.
I did a speed-test just a few minutes ago to help confirm whether or not it's my connection, and this was it's score;
> Download: 0.49 mb/s
> Upload: 1.16 mb/s
> Ping: 67ms
> Grade: D
What baffles me is we have the best service (exfinity from comcast + wireless, my Mom made sure she ordered the best) and I have 5 bars constantly. My computer is in tip-top shape and it's brand new-- I had no issues with it loading pages/media before we moved here and got this internet service. It also seemed to start recently, since within the first week or so of having this internet it worked just fine.
I'm not too sure what I can do, if anything, but I thought I'd ask here since there are a few tech savvy peeps on the Nation. Was there anything that could cause my internet to go to sh*t all of a sudden? Anything I can do to fix it?

Well, it might be the best in your area, but your Internet seems to be rather meh ;_;.
Up until a few years ago (like, 2007), the only options around here were Dial-Up, basically. It sux.
One option, if you don't mind being stuck in one place, could be to directly plug into your wireless router. (You'd need the cord, which is probably <$10?) Wireless is unstable, but if you plug yourself in, you get a stable connection and your speed jumps up exponentionally.

Me too, but my browser just auto-closes at times and I lose internet at the most random times. Maybe it's the aftermath of Irene.

Oh, we have a cable. Our last Landlord was a cheap f*ck so I had to use a long cable to connect internet to my old laptop. I'll try and see if it helps.
@ Corp;
Except I live up in WA, which is on the complete opposite side of the USA. xD
Edit; wow, uhm. I think that did the trick.
Now I feel awfully stupid, as the idea didn't occur to me before.
Thank you, Claudia <33 my connection works just like it did before.
How ironic that simply unhooking the direct connection and switching to wireless made it worse. You'd think wireless would improve it if anything..

oh my gosh yay, it works!
And wireless is worse because of all the interference, basically anything with a wireless signal goofs it up a bit.
I wish I had the cord and a place to plugin, but my mom hogs the desk by our router for when she's working from home. :l
I'M SO HAPPY

I'm overjoyed, man. Especially now that I can call comcast and demand their best non-wireless service.
No way in hell I'm making my Mom pay frickin' $80 a month for this sh*t anymore.
Not to mention I can watch my shows without them taking forever to load/browse tumblr.

Well the download being lower than the upload is a bad start.
What's the advertised speeds? It's super rare that upload will be higher than download. So I think you need to contact the ISP first to see what's going on. You're paying for their services so don't be shy to call and not leave them alone until you get as close as possible to your advertised speeds.

Have you checked if a neighbor is "borrowing" any free access?

=P Fix'd.
And nope. It's password protected.
But thank you two for the advice.

I can't believe you thought wireless would improve speed over wired. xd
But congrats on getting it resolved.
