I recently got offered a job position at a company I applied for but I'm having second thoughts now.
I have to make the decision to either accept or decline by 5pm today.
Here's my conflict.
-They are looking for a full time position yet I am a full time student. They are willing to offer me a semi-part time position
-I have school tuesdays to thursdays all at 10 AM to 4:20 PM
-They want me to work at Mondays to Tuesdays, Thursdays to Fridays
-On Mondays and Fridays, I'll be working 4PM to 12AM
-On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'll be working 5 30PM to 12AM
-The pay is 12 CDN an hour
-The work is on average 8 hours of constant standing and moderate machinery work.
-I have to take crushed rock samples and then process it even more until it's a fine powder
-There could be health hazards as I see all the workers are wearing protective clothing and masks
-So because the work is rather strenuous and I work until 12AM, I don't know how it will affect my school life.
Can anyone help me on this decision?

Sounds like too much work, especially since you're gonna be going to school full-time.
If it were two days a week, but you're talking about four days a week, in-between class days. When are you going to have time to do homework and whatnot?
You'd be quite tired, I'd say. Heck, I'd come back home and sleep after 8 hours of constant standing.
Good job for such a simple task, but I say, turn it down. Your work will interfere with school, unfortunately. If only you were a part-time student. :(

Thanks for the reply Phunk, I'll definitely think about that.
To be honest, I'm really stressed about this decision since I have so little time to come up with an answer.
The opportunity is great and right now, my family is in some financial trouble plus I don't know when I'll get another job opportunity...
I hope more people reply...

Maybe it won't be that bad.
I drew you a schedule to see how it'd actually look.

[S]You don't have classes on Wednesdays, right?
You could probably take that day to do all your schoolwork Thursday and take the weekend as time to do all your schoolwork for Tuesday and whatever extra there is.
Monday -> Tuesday may be tough for ya, since you gotta wake up early to go to class, but that's the only day you gotta wake up early after a long day at work.
Give it a shot! It's good pay, jobs can be scarce. If anything, you can quit, right?[/S]
:worry:

It's so/so. The amount of hours are normal and the schedule is actually pretty good, it's just the actual work time that sucks. Working until 12am? Yeah, that can put a strain on some people.
It should be doable-- even working those hours, I don't see why you couldn't get in at-least 6-7 hours of sleep (including time to breakfast/a bit of homework/etc).
The pay is pretty good as-well, unless I'm wrong about the value of CDN. So long as you're somewhat fit and can stand being in an upward/non-sitting position that long, you'll be okay. Can you get tested regularly to make sure that the job doesn't give you any health issues..? I doubt it will, but yeah.
Honestly I'd take it/at-least try it out for awhile. It seems like a decent job.

I have classes on Wednesdays as well.
Thanks for the graph though, I'll be having two days off (Sat + Sun) and one day where I just have school.
The main thing I'm worried about is that I don't think the bus runs past 12 AM so my mom will have to drive me home.
She's got sleeping problems too... Plus working till twelve isn't exactly an appealing thought in my mind.

Sounds quite inconvenient then, the way you put it.

I wouldn't take it. Standing until 12 everyday is going to impact your health, and missing even an hour of sleep a day for any long period of time would actually lower your brain capacity. Not the best thing for school.
Not to mention travel time, and like you said, buses. It's generally more unsafe in the middle of the night anyway.
Plus, $12/hr is nothing...

Mmmm. Are there any other job options open, or has it been really, really hard for you to find a job in your area..?
I'm not a big fan of people being forced to take jobs, but I also know how hard it is just to find a job, even if said job is a sh*t one.

Well the hiring manager was pretty sympathetic and he said it's ok if I opt out.
He even said that if he hired me he would have to personally justify why I can't handle a full time position to his boss.
Really, my heart is telling me not to take the job but my brain is telling me to. And I think my brain is losing so far...

I'm with everybody else. If you were a part-time student it'd be a good job, but you're just going to wear yourself down, working and going to school.

Eh. My Mom went to School full-time Mon-Fri (3 classes) and worked as a CNA lifting and caring for children from 8pm -> 6am (4-5 days a week) at the age of 46 -> 48 because we needed the money.
I'm not justifying it, but sometimes it's best to do what you have to for cash.
Not unless jobs are easier to find in your area

Mmm, yeah.
Also, I can understand if your family is in a tough financial spot, but if it worries you that your mom would have to pick you up (because she needs to sleep), that's a problem. It's almost like a conflict of interest.
Working until midnight is pretty crazy, but if you're a student, I can see that happening.

Well, I made up my mind and I think I'll take the opportunity.
Even if it's not a well paying job, I need the experience for any future jobs. The company is willing to be flexible with me being a full time student and not many companies are willing to do that. The buses run till 1 am so I can probably catch one home.
Besides, I have nothing to lose, if after two or three months I want to quit, then so be it.
