So, my Trend Micro Internet Sercuirty just expired and I'm not gonna renew it 'cause it requires money.
So anyone have recommendations on good free anti-virus programs?

I use avast!, and i think it's pretty good.
After a while it'll ask you to register it, so you need to do that to keep it. It's still free though.

AVG free version, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, Spybot Search & Destroy (make sure the website ends with .org).
All are good, I use all three of them.

Microsoft Security Essentials. Top-grade free protection, with the least hassle.

This is really good if you have windows. What makes it different from the other free anti-virus programs is that it does not try to compete with others. It is simple to use and clean.

I can vouch for Avast! Antievirus. Easy to use and spots viruses when they try to jump into your computer.

I'd use Avast! for general protection, and malaware bytes for removal/just in-case.

dont use spybot
it's been lacking support for years
and AVG deletes things without telling you and tell false warnings
use Microsft Security Essentials if you're using Windows
its actually the best free anti-virus now

What are you talking about? The 2.0 beta for spybot just came out last month.
For avg, I only have it on whenever I want a scan. Otherwise I just move it to a different folder so it can't be run... Eats up too much of my already tiny amounts of ram (640mb).

Avira served me well for as long as I used it, but usually had some false positives.

by lack of support

Avg,avast,ad-ware all do good for general control/blocking
maleware bytes is the cleaner expert- infected pcs get fixed by this
Microsoft security essenitals is also another viable option althought some free choices out there give it some stiff competion
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372369,00.asp one site giving - windows se an average to good rating
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/collection/5928/2011_free_av.html- avast number 1 here/se is 3rd
Id go with i use Ad-aware which was the winner in the free catgerogry in pc mage giving power on par with paid suites
or Avast which also scored very well

I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials now.
I already have Malwarebytes, from previous infections, I go to a certain forum to help clean out my computer whenever I get infected.
<: Thanks for the help everyone.

Seems like MSE won the battle.
