So I've been playing my sword Lann recently, but I can't really use Slip-Dash correctly in order to take advantage of the invincibility frames.
When even are the invincibility frames, and do you guys know any tips to help me use this skill in a more advantageous way?

Have you tried using them on your instincts? Always worked for me...

I mean, it works sometimes like that, yeah. But not often enough for me to be satisfied.

Slip dash's invincibility frames take place in the middle of the slip dash, and so in order to use them effectively, plan a slipdash before your enemy strikes. As your rank raises, time and length of invincibility for slip dahs will increase, making you invincible for a larger period of the slip dash time for example:
|----------| This is slip dash length
|----I-I----| The area between the two I's is the area of invincibility you get at low ranks once you get it to the currently maxed rank:
|I----------I| It will be more like that, making you invincible in more areas of the slip dash.

If the attack is a horizontal swipe, Slip in the direction the swipe is coming. Gives you some extra time for your Double Crescent to go off and puts you in a good habit of staying up close when your stamina allows you to.
Exceptions to this are spinning attacks (like Ingkells'), in which case you just want to get the hell out of there. Unless you're Raid Hunter, but you're not Raid Hunter.

Boat 1 roller (big and small) is one of the best way to practice your slip dash, don't use nimble dash though since it will be too easy.
For the big roller, your timing has to be very exact, else you will see a flinch or hit animation, disregarding your rank on dash. (Reason for that is because the duration you would stay under roller actually goes longer than r6 dash invincibility, and you're actually using the lower height from dash to avoid being hit, so having rD dash, rA dash, or r6 dash all needs the same timing, else you will get hit.)
Dashing through roller can get you a general idea of how fast your invincibility kicks in (have to be a little brave and try a few times here though). Another good thing about roller is that you get hit for little damage, and it's not killable, you can spend an hour in one dungeon perfecting your dash.
For nimble dash, I would say the traps in Boat 1 is good practice, the one that hits you head on. Nothing difficult, you know when the attacks are coming, and the rate of the log falling down on you is always the same. Nimble dash it head on. If you get it right, you will see the log break around your head. If you did it wrong, well.... you will know it right away...
For height difference, it's kind of hard to recognize the effect of lower height once you have high rank dash, since most of the time you will be in invincibility. If you want, you can always make a new lann and try dashing away from gnoll chieftain's horizontal swing, or slip dashing along it, but not really needed.
Once you have a good grasp on the timing of invincibility, go ahead and try it on various bosses. There're different hitboxes, each requires you to respond differently.
As for when the invincibility starts, at r6 you will be able to start it right away. (animation wise as soon as your head is lowered it will start)
Some people said it's in between, including me in the past.
I am not sure if it's the lag that made me think the invincibility starts later, or if it's the higher rank in dash making the invincibility starts earlier, but one thing I am sure. At r6, invincibility starts right as soon as your head lowers. (not when you press space, there's a bit delay like 0.3 sec or less, so you always need to anticipate, as when you saw the attack coming at you is usually too late, unless it's a slow one)
