Okay, for some reason when I start up my computer, it takes like 15-20 minutes to bring it up and be able to access internet or games etc. Very irritating, and it makes me feel like my computer is dying.
But then once it all loads, things go pretty quickly. I play games without any lag, zoom through the internet, and watch 100 cat videos without buffering. So whyy does it take so long to load up? D:
I mean, I can live with it, but if there's an emergency then I'm kinda screwed. I just have to leave the comp on at all times, except when I go to bed. :I

Bluh how. :I All I know is like, uh windows live starts up automatically but I don't use it really anymore. Just sometimes. I could probably take that out. And then some MagicTune Premium thing that I guess lets you change how bright or dark your computer it? Not sure what else comes up.

I think for most programs you can go to the options/preferences/etc. and check whether or not you want it to run on startup.
I'm not sure how to do it other than that.

Well, I can't find that for MSN, and I don't know of other programs that start up automatically. There's ONE I found and turned off but unsure if it'll make much of a difference. Idunno, it's kind of a big thing I guess. Open Office quick starter. x3

Well, there are various tools that will show you what loads on startup, but the basic one that's built into Windows is System Configuration.
Start > run/search > msconfig > Startup
For example, mine looks like this right now:

Maybe you should post yours, so someone could help identify any potential trouble-making programs.
You can also look at the Services tab, just tick the box to hide Microsoft's own services. I wouldn't suggest you mess with these either way, but it might be interesting to look at nonetheless.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
"%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
Pretty much every conceivable startup item can be found in one of these places. Unless it's a service. (services.msc)

I'd stick to msconfig. Regedit is too dangerous for people that have no clue what they're doing.

I never said anything about regedit.
Ergo, people who recognize the location is a registry key will know what they're doing. (one of those is just the startup folder, also)
