How many of you guys are familiar with Touhou or Bullet Dodging games in general?
I'm thinking about trying to make one designed for mobile devices. Specifically Androids and Iphones/ipods/ipads, devices that are all touch screen with no actual keyboard.
Of course trying to get the controls right is the tricky part about this.
Normally one would use the arrow keys to move, z to shoot, and hold shift to go into focused mode.
I'm thinking I'll have to toss out focused mode all together and rework that part of the mechanics.
Here is what I'm thinking:
Tap + Hold = Move your character around, Basically, hold down your finger to weave your character through the maze of bullets and damnaku. I think that would feel the most natural and provide the smoothest experience.
Double Tap = Start/Stop Shooting. Simple Enough
Swipe (left or right) = Bomb, Imagine it like a sweeping motion to rid the screen of Damnaku and wipe them away.
What do you guys think? Especially your touhou players. I want to hear your thoughts on it.

I only heard of Bullet Hell when I wanted to play My Little Touhou: Spell Cards are Magic.

wouldn't touching the screen make you unable to see the bullets?

There are already quite a number of curtain fire mobile app games.
Usually movement is based on just hold and drag. Firing is auto unless you turn it off with a tap of a specific area.
Bombs are actually better controlled via gyroscope. Though obviously other control schemes can exist.
Personally I don't think danmaku is a good idea on a mobile device, but thats just me.

I think turning on and off the fire is too tricky. It should just auto fire as soon as you hold to start moving. As for bomb, it might not calibrate correctly and you might just end up throwing yourself into bullets. I think bomb should be like a button in a far corner that you can press with a separate finger.
