I'm trying to prof my perfect Raven Gladius, but I have no idea what to do with the Prof. (It got dinged a pt. but it's still fine as a weapon. Still have to take care of the sonuvagun since it's a PINK BLADE.) This is coupled with my Spirit Weapon.
My current spirit weapon is a level 21 MALE Broad Sword, capable of Soul Reso- erm, Incarnation (so no ideas about me trashing my lovely little Lagnus mmkay? D=<)
I have 80-100 DEX for some mysterious reason. (Refine is nowhere near a number rank.)
I'm thinking of ranking Mana Shield for the sake of a 2nd HP bar (when I'm not Healer mode)
My only way of doing DECENT damage is Water Cannon which is currently R4 (sadly, with the mobbyness, it's too slow for such things unless I can chain it.)
Don't even say magic or ranged. I'm bad at those with the exception of Healing being R1 and no chance of me ranking it down due to my conquest of becoming one of the rare Healing Masters.
Although Ranged Mastery IS r9 in case I need to cover fire something, but I'm like super uber unlucky with bows.
So! What the hell can I do to actually hurt things?

If smash is going to be your main attack, I suggest a two-handed weapon with good enchants on it.
Otherwise, if you are going to stick to your current set, you need to upgrade your equipments with damage-boosting enchants.
Upgrades on weapons are going to help a lot. 230 proficiency gladius upgrade path. I would link you to the wiki page on gladius for this but it's lagging for me at the moment.
For range and water cannon, getting R5+ barrier spikes is going to help a lot.
I really recommend barrier spikes because it acts as an additional HP shield and at R5 you can use 3 of these.

For just 201 ap and maybe 500k to a mil, you can rank summon golem to r1 and let it do the fighting for you. My alt uses r1 stone golems excessively and I take her to most dungeons or sms int or under. Not to mention it will go well with your high ranked AM. Sometimes, people accompanying you on the run will give you golem crystals to use for free too =). The downside is that you'd probably be using stone golems most of the time and you'd have to mine and make more for constant supply.
If golem is not your thing, then I really suggest you focus on smash and CM for melee. Wm might be too late for you to train until later when you can afford some -cp equips and because of that, as Yogurt said, Two-hand would be recommended if you use smash alot.
For other alchemy, rank barrier spikes first to r5 at least so that you can fire water cannon more safely.
You should choose either one of the 3 options me and Yogurt listed and focus on one. Focusing on multiple won't work very well.

Get mana shield, and figure out if you want to be melee/range/magic as a main. If your going melee rank CM, Crit, smash, FH (adds str), and def.

Get a simple enchant set like fox giant on everything. Prof up your weapons and get them upgraded properly (30% crit when you wield it + 7x bal when you wield it + highest average dmg). Keep pushing your wm rank to 1. Eventually get r1 crit and smash.
After you get these basic statistical upgrades down, you really only improve through personal skill. Develop your pet play skills to improve your dps and survivability.
And magic and range suck.

my current build is rank 9 crit rank B combat mastery and rank 1 wm.
I could solo rabbie basic with rank C crit and rank B WM without deaths.
Just all in the style and how you use it.
BTW. Key part. Use potions.
My weapons? Clean Gladii. Purely clean.

Usually you need at least 1 r1 combat skill and some base stats and/or weapons to back it up.
For example for melee you would need r1 of smash or windmill.
For archery r1 ranged attack + either r1 magnum or r1 arrow revolver
For magic you need r1 of either Thunder or Ice spear
For alchemy you want r1 of Golem Summon
