I find that forcing people to use the thread in General Discussion is rather inefficient, particularly since the first post isn't going to updated as things are posted.
We could all check the wiki for the server status, however, sometimes someone posts on the forums before the wiki is updated; not to mention that people like discussing the server status - you can't do so on the wiki, and if you force people to use that thread for discussion, then we'll have a thread which will be a pain to look through and will be god knows how many pages long, considering that the servers have been having multiple issues a week.
A sub-forum for server status under Mabinogi Talk would be better, perhaps something similar to the Mabimarket subforums.

Or I can just start editing the first post of that thread, unless anyone objects to it.
The whole point of the stickied thread was to cut down on the floods of "x server has x problem" threads. They're pretty redundant.

Well, that'd be nice, but it wouldn't fix the discussion bit. I would also expect that it's more work for you (since the sub-forums wouldn't really require moderation past making sure people post in the right forums, which is a worry for all topics.)
Also it would make specific server issue discussions easier, since the thread isn't particularly great for discussion.
If you'd really like to have it all in one thread, you could simply lock that thread, update it yourself, but still allow for discussion elsewhere.

I really think that having a section for all the threads about things going wrong with the servers would help people notice what's up, more quickly.
Noticing a thread being recently bumped to the top of a subforum is easier than noticing a stickied post is bumped and bolded.
And of course, the faster someone notices something like this, the less likely they are to lose something because they thought things were fine. (which, really, should be taken for granted, but that's another story.)
Plus having a title telling which server is having problems helps more.
Which is more helpful/informative?
Seeing the sticky being bumped, or seeing a thread titled "XXX's data isn't saving" or "YYY crashed"?

As skye pointed out the general thread was made to counter the flood of "HAY GUISE I GUESS THE SERVER BROKE AGAIN!" threads that in past weeks were all over the place. Some users posted the suggestion on this same section and at least one mod agreed, So I decided to make the thread since I've seen the idea work on other forums.
The thread was unsuccesful on it's creation, and until Skye stickied it, it was long forgotten. Since nation seems to have a different culture of it's own I guess the idea won't work as intended, but I still prefer it over 5 threads on the same Issue. The first post can be updated with current issues by me or a mod if you'd like and the rest of the thread can be used for discussion. The point of the thread was to use it to report server malfunctions and other issues players are having, there's even a little guide on how to post your issue on the first post.

Well, the point is maybe these threads should have their own place apart from the discussion forums so people who don't want to see them don't have to, but those who want to discuss the server issues still can. Hence the suggestion of making a new sub-forums rather than simply telling people they can no longer discuss server issues (because that sticky is not going to be good for discussion.)

Making new subforums seems to be a no-no around these parts, and I don't see why are you so against a more organized form of reporting server issues. For once I don't really see subforums as a solution in this case since the problem would still be the same, 5-10 threads reporting the same thing.

I have no issue with keeping that sticky -
But what happens when people want to talk about specific server problems? About what they were experiencing, about what possible side effects there are (for example, specific channels dying, specific NPCs being glitched, etc)

Then they can go ahead and do so. It looks like that's what they're doing in the thread anyway.
