I know there's a term for them but I forgot.
Have you ever ran into one of them?
What did you do or what would you do?
So on my way to school on Friday I ran into a lady right outside my train stop who poked me while I was listening to music to catch my attention
A conversation pursued.
Her: Do you have any money?
Me: No, I'm sorry. I'm broke.
Her: A college student being broke? Please anything would do.
Me: I'm still in high school, I'm using a student charliecard (MA transportation pass) to get on the metro.
Her: Really? It's that I'm from Maine and I got stuck here. I got hit by a car and was in the hospital.
*shows me her leg bracelet with yet her legs had no bandages*
Her: And I just need 10 dollars for an Amtrak back to Maine, I already have 30 but it cost 40.
Me: I'm sorry but I really don't have any money. ( I didn't!)
Her: Anything will do.
Here's where it got awkward.
Her: Don't you have a debit card?
Me: No, I don't have a bank account.
Her: Don't your parents give you allowance?
Me: No.(What the hell?)
And then she storms off angry without saying a word.
I talked to my friends about it and they say that they've seen her but not in downtown.
I remember I saw on the newspaper a guy made about hundreds to thousands of dollars begging for a year, he even quit his day job.
So share your stories of what you have done or will do.

I think Cucurbita posted about this a while back. Supposedly, if those people play their cards right, they can make 100k+/yr. :|
Oh and I never give em money because I'm afraid that if they see me pull out my wallet, they would try to grab it and run or whatever.

Damn it!
Beaten by a pumpkin!

I have that fear of when I was talking to the lady.
Not because I had a wallet on me but I was afraid she would rob me of my iPod Touch.
She kept starring at my pockets most of the time and it was making me more nervous, which is why I kept the conversation short and simple

Yeah I ran into one a few months ago. My grandmother and I were heading to our car from some store or other and a man approached us and said that his family (which was nowhere in sight) was traveling from Dallas to Santa Fe (my town happens to be between the two) and they were staying with a friend. Their car had broken down and they didn't have enough cash to cover repairs and if we'd be so kind as to give him $10. We politely refused I personally would have liked to say "Sure thing, in fact I'll go down to the repair shop and pay for all of it, you'll want some gas money for your trip back". I'd like to see what would happen if I did.

I've known of two in my own neighborhood.
One would dash up to you with sweat pouring off of him, acting like he didn't enough for his meds. Most just shoo'd him away though.
The second person...I've seen someone drop him off at a local store and then pick him up later, presumeably at the 'end of his shift'. He was kinda dressed for a job of sorts too everytime he's begging...people usually give him money too. x.x

I live in New York, and get that just about every day lol >.>
I usually just ignore them. I don't think I was ever pestered or anything. I remember when I was little I used to be scared of people who would beg for money. Like, hide behind my mom think about pancakes and wish I was home kind of scared.

I get this about everyday at the bus stops. I don't give them anything.
It's more annoying when they ask me for a cigarette.. Does it look like I smoke too you?

I saw a black guy at a Meijer paying for groceries with food stamps, while holding a expensive looking blueberry, and an Ipod.

I feel too guilty for not giving money or something. I always try to give someone a dollar, its just how I work ;__; not to worried about people taking my wallet if I pull it out, I'm pretty big, can take on most guys unless if they're bigger than me :awesome:
I gave this one guy who looked hungry a burger I got for free at McDonald's.

When I drive to school, sometimes I see this beggar holding a sign that says, "Why lie? I need a whore."

I pretend not to see/hear them but that's kind of hard when they walk up to me and tap me on the shoulder or something. I've heard of people doing this, so I don't want to give them my money. It ruins it for the people who actually need this and really don't have anywhere else to turn to, but I don't want to get robbed, or think about them spending it on something other than what they said they would.
