Question about Shields and Durability

Probably a noobish question but does the durability of the shield in battle (like number of smashes it can take before it breaks) go down when the durability of the shield is lowered due to +ing or enchanting (like a shield with 130 dura being able to take more hits than a shield with 90 dura)? And yes, both shields are of the same time (large/small). Thanks in advance.

from my experience, items with more max durability last longer than those with less, while the current durability (the 25 in 25/130 dura) has no effect
