I've been having this issue for a little over a week now, starting the day after I last had Automatic Updates installed. When doing certain things my computer slows down to a grinding halt that lasts for either a couple minutes or just flat out freezes my computer. The things that slow down my computer are going to certain websites on Firefox (8.0 Beta), looking through folders (I tried to go into Program Files to remove some things that might have been slowing down my computer, but it quickly became unresponsive and froze my computer), and trying to open Skype (I never have anything else open when I do this, but it still totally freezes my computer). I haven't performed a virus scan since a few days before the Automatic Updates. My sister attempted to a few days ago, but it still hadn't finished almost 12 hours later. I tried a quick scan later that day, but the same thing happened; it stalled on a certain file and froze. I'm going to attempt another scan tonight and see if it finds anything, if it even completes. I'll also post my system specs if that has something to do with anything after posting this, since I think DirectX is another thing that freezes my computer.
EDIT:Here's my processor and RAM.
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M 1.70GHz
Memory:1022MB RAM
Why don't you try a System Restore to a previous state that it didn't freeze?
Unless you find what was freezing up your computer.

Your Ram's low to play mabi. What's your internet speed?

try using CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
gets rid of all your temporary files, fixes registry, and might speed up your computer a bit if you don't regularly clean those files out.
I would first make sure your computer isn't infected or anything but it looks like you really need an upgrade on your system.

You know, I remember the days when Mabinogi's client wasn't so trashed with garbage and ran perfectly fine on 512 ram.
Its sad.

Virus scan still didn't finish when I got home from school earlier. I guess I'll try CCleaner and after that I might try a system restore.
EDIT:Tried CCleaner, no effect. Tried System Restore. I could only go back to last Monday. It failed anyways.
Any other ideas?

Theres no reason why your specs are affecting your speed, since I'm guessing it was working fine before. Unless you kicked your computer really hard or something. But thats not my point. What virus scanner were you using?

Just Microsoft Security Essentials.
And my computer has been getting knocked around some by my younger brother.

Some things you can try
1. Vacuum your computer. The inside.
2. check for any broken parts
3. malwarebyte's Anti-malware, Google it
4. Wait out your scan
Still waiting on Yoorah though.

LOL, now I have to reply. D:
There could be lots of random causes and it's really hard to diagnose. :(
When you said that System Restore failed, did you mean that the restoration worked but didn't help, or did you mean that it failed to complete the restoration?
You can't really do much with the PC in its current state. Try booting into Safe Mode (spam F8 during startup) and see if that lets you do stuff on your comp without freezing. Then you could run your virus scanners and whatnot.
Also, check the Windows Update history and see what was actually installed. Windows Update can install new drivers, some of which may not work on your specific computer. It's rare for this to happen, but it's a possibility! I never trust the drivers on Windows Update. If it did install a driver for some device, you can roll it back to a previous version or uninstall it and get the proper one from the manufacturer.
But personally, I would not bother with all of this. I'd make sure I have my files backed up and nuke the whole thing, put a fresh install of Windows on it.

It failed to complete the restoration.
Also, now my computer got a blue screen and can't be rebooted. I'm on my ancient Mac right now.
Every time I try to boot it up, it says somethings like "Operating System not found" and some message about the "boot software" or whatever not being found.
Also, it was making some weird clicking noises right before it crashed, which continued when I attempted to reboot it.
That thing was bought refurbished from one of my dad's coworkers. My dad told me he "stands by it" or something. If it's not physical damage that's causing it (it's been knocked on the floor, stomped on, and hit with a soccer ball, thanks to my younger brothers) I was going to go with the new Windows thing. I can't do anything until Monday though, because the guy I bought it from is on vacation until then.
Thanks for all the replies.

Clicking noise? The hard drive crashed and is basically dead. Falling laptop = dead hard drive, unless it's one of those high durability drives, and even they can break. Sorry to tell you this, but you'll probably have to buy a new drive for it.

About how much would that cost me, and would I still need a new Windows to install onto it?

Dunno about the specific requirements your laptop has in terms of size. Check the manual!
Yes, a new install is required. Your current drive is pretty much toast. :(
