  I wonder if this will be the Bengal Tiger/Magic Carpet equivalent for dragons. If so, rejoice, for (Thunder) dragons will now be permanent in-game pets, at least in some form.

  Fail copy/paste of the regular Thunder Dragon. It's actually a bit slower. Here's comparative data on pets, from the same Mabidata thread:
