They are. It was in the local newspaper that they're getting 400k for the statue and 300k for the amphitheater to rebuild.

Total waste of money.

I agree. Maybe not so much for the amphitheater, if it's used often enough, but a 6-story Jesus? No thank you.
It'll just get struck by lightning again. It's 6-stories. ._.

Actually, as far as I know, the amphitheater is rarely used. I have a friend who goes to that church and she says she can't remember the last time they used it for anything.

Then it's all a big fat waste of money. :/
$700,000 could be used for so much more.

Kind of a waste of money. Christians aren't supposed to be worshiping any physical representations of biblical figures anyway. The only thing they're allowed to pray to is the cross.

I don't think they're really worshiping it, it's just a representation of Jesus. Like a picture of him.

If that's so, the statue is an item of luxury. That makes it even more of a waste.

Likely to be struck.
I was thinking the same...plus it looks like one of the tallest objects in the photo.

Yes, I agree. If it gets struck again, they should just leave it be. ._.

You're calling $250,000-$400,000 on a statue of Jesus a total waste of money?
I don't remember anybody complaining about the cure for cancer or more useful spending when
this was first brought up.
Religion gets too much hate.
... though yea, they need like Lightning Rods nearby or something.

But doesn't it say in the bible that things like that should NOT be built?
