The people in charge of making sure a "democratic" government is put into place for Libya are now going on a power trip and promising that Libya will be ruled by
Sharia law.
In a nutshell that means women may as well be animals (maybe worse in some cases), lots of weird and unfair regulations and punishments and all kinds of other problems that most people do not want, including the citizens of Libya. A very large number of them are pissed off at this.
Probably still better than ghadafi, but this doesn't improve much.

This is horrible for them.... After all of that... I wouldn't stand for that.

That doesn't mean they will have "evil" laws. As the article points out, it's interpreted moderately in many countries. To me it looks like it's pissing off western governments more than the Libyans themselves. They have bigger issues than this to deal with, anyway--mainly how they can build their democratic government. Once that's in place, minor stuff like this will take care of itself.

Sharia law isn't exactly a democracy... xD

Nobody's saying that Sharia law is a democracy. O.o It's all a matter of interpretation. You can have a fair, democratic government with policies based on Sharia law if that's what the people want.

When they say (paraphrased from my morning newspaper from the leader of the Libya transition commission) "All laws that don't comply with sharia law will have no legal standing", there's something wrong.

Like I've said, they have no government yet. There's just a ton of people with different opinions saying all sorts of things. Don't pay attention to that chatter.

I'm hoping for another rebellion so we have more to talk about around the water cooler.
