svchost runs multiple services so it's hard to know what's actually causing the high CPU, so instead of task manager use this to see what it branches off to

Yeah it does, a couple of times, my SVChost eats a crapload of CPU when I'm in a game, and when I dusted it, it usually resolves for a month before I have to dust it again. Though I think it's the operating system that makes me do that. Friggin Free non warezed SP1 Win7..

Do you use a lot of microsoft programs? A lot of tasks that come with windows xp-windows 7 run their processes in SVC host so it doesnt have 9000 individual processes. but if you download things like MSE anti-virus they may put more processes into svchost making it take up more processor usage
