[FONT="Arial Narrow"][SIZE="3"]So, I've been drawing manga for about six years now.
I think the progress is kind of slow because I learn from practice.
Every day I doodle constantly, and as time passes and I compare pictures, I realize how much improvement I've gone through.
So recently, I bought a Bamboo (Wacom) tablet. I'm kinda shaky with the pen,
since I'm not used to drawing on something while looking up at the CPU screen.
I also have SAI PaintTool, but here's the issue:
Suppose I sketch something with the Pen tool.
Then, I colour over it. Is there a way to make it so that when I colour, it won't ERASE the black pen lines I've made?
And by a method, I want something other than:
- Redrawing the lines back on. I lack the ability to duplicate.
- Avoiding black lines when using Select Tool. (I tried. Wastes too much time and I'm impatient.)
But yeah! If you've got answers to this, please help me ><;
I'm a SAI PaintTool noob, I wasn't actually taught about how the program works.
I just used it. And I'm unaware about Layers too, I only have some depth about what they are (on CorelPaint).
Other than that, I'm clueless.
Any help is appreciated! :D

Layers are on one of the bars on the side if you're using default settings. Put the colour layer under lineart. There's also vector layer or whatever for colour-changeable, smoother, thick/thin lines.

[FONT="Arial Narrow"][SIZE="3"]Could you go into a little more detail, please? D:
I'm trying to follow and did something, but it doesn't work.
Meaning that I did it wrong.

Gah, it's kinda late x.x I got two major exams tomorrow and I'm pissed as hell.
If the other members don't get to you first I might post some screenshots tomorrow.
There's always the help booklet thing in the program itself if you're desperate.

For the layers, there should be a different layer for each work that you do. One is scribble and get the general shape, the 2nd one is a more precise outline, the 3rd is complete line art of your drawing, and the 4th~ is generally colors. Hair, skin, dress, all have different layers as they don't mix. You can delete the scribble and more precise outline after that, just keep the lineart.
Since I don't remember if it goes top-bottom (top stays well on top) or bottom-top (bottom layer is on top) for the layers, you can test that yourself.

No, not horrible at all !
It was short and simple, taught me quickly about layers.
Thanks a lot!
[Made my siggy with that info provided :D]

You have a deeeeep voice XD
@Rue your siggie is nice, just if you want the lines to be less chunky work on your lineart

Use the vector layer, and the curve/pressure/edit tools.

Yeah, I kinda got the tablet recently so my hands are kinda funky when I draw on the computer.
I will though, thanks :)

That new layers button with a old fountain pen on it. Click it and play around with curve/edit/pressure.

OH. I get what you mean now. But, is this for refining? Creating rough drafts? Editing?
So to speak I've only drawn on my tablet 3-4 times. I have yet to learn >>;

It's for making the final black lineart. It takes a long time.

Takes a little longer than just drawing line art with the pen/brush tool, but its sharp and accurate.
I dunno though, the rough style that shows the lines done by hand is still favorable to me.
