I am about to choose hammer or sword fiona. I think I pretty much got most of the difference. I want to know however from fiona players, how much does hammer effect Guard? Can hammer fionas put up guard well enough for later bosses?

I don't think it affects shield use at all.
I'm pretty sure the only differences between hammer and sword are overall damage, attack speed, and combos.

I got this from here:
http://www.vindictuswiki.com/wiki/Hammer_Time!_Fiona_Long_Hammer_Guide
General Differences Between Long Hammers and Longswords
- Hammers are heavy, so guard cannot be used as quickly while Fiona is in swinging a hammer.
- Many hammer smashes damage enemies directly behind Fiona.
- Hammer smashes gain additional attack elements at rank F.
- All Hammer attacks are affected by Critical Hit, including normal attacks.
- Hammer attacks have great range and inflict severe damage.
- Hammers generally cost more resources to craft than swords.
- Hammers have less Balance than swords, making their damage range much wider and more random.

Oh, well yeah, if you're still swinging your hammer due to slow attack speed, you won't be able to pull of guard at the same time as you would with a sword since a sword's swing will be over before a hammer swing.
Was thinking slightly differently than you, haha.

Swords have shield canceling, which offers far more versatility when fighting aggressive bosses. You can go into your heavy stander much faster than hammers. Its usually suggested that you go sword for this reason.
However... I'm a hammer by heart and will never change. I sometimes pick up a sword every once in a while but the damage and AOE makes me cry. I can't do it. I need my hits to have impact.
Hammer has its benefits too. Its beyond just "powerful". It has huge aoe, push, and it hurts. I love it.
I've always been a fan of blunt weapons. Even back in Mabinogi, I'd rather hold a mace and shield over dual wield swords.

Swords are for pansys. I want my weapon like I want my music: heavy and blunt.

I hope Invertex doesn't wander into this thread after you said that...
Also, if you're really concerned about hammer speed, just enhance them. At some point you start getting attack speed added to them.

I wandered into this thread.
Honestly, I think there isn't much of a difference in the feel of each weapon after you enhance them. Hammers outclass Swords in every single way possible right now, they can walk to cancel most of their moves and they can HS cancel Butterfly. It's much easier to cancel most of the Sword smashes (LRR, LLRRR, and LLLRRR are the only ones that can't be canceled. LR and R can be walk canceled), but it doesn't take much learning to cancel Hammer smashes.
There is a reason why the majority of serious Fiona players have switched over to Hammers. They have naturally higher attack (About 1000 more comparing a BH and a DWLS), spin2win is deadly, and they were made much safer after the buff. The one note I have here is that attack speed is much more important for Hammers in order to play them properly. Ornate (a r9 Enchant) on your endgame hammer (BH or Chiulin) is also practically a requirement. Also note that most solos are done using Hammers, simply as Swords lack enough damage to finish in time.
Do note that Hammer and Sword are the most similar of all the weapon choices for each character though. The only changes are all your smashes (R and LRR still behave similarly. LLR (Hammer) and LLLRRR (Sword) are both usless). You really can just substitute Butterfly for Amaranth and Curshing Arc for Blossom, and you're set to use both weapons.

21 att speed is all you really need, anything above that is just a convenience. If you are into some serious solos, you might want a little more than that...but again, for any casual play, I'd say 21 att is good.
Other than that, hammers simply are (and have always been IMO) far better than swords. They don't require a gimmick to function, and flow much, much better. Your overall group clearing options, big stun, and quick hit options are far better in every sense of the word. Then there is the whole butterfly2win, which is a nice addition...but IMO the LR-R extension is far more useful in general gameplay.

So I guess there was a hammer buff I didn't know about.
Been a while since I last played.

Just go hammer.
Swords are so underpowered to the point that it is seriously more DPS to straight up spam LR than it is to use any other combo/smash. Yeah the stamina usage will start to suck quickly but that's besides the point.
