Likely a character off-screen and behind the camera used magnum shot on the damaged character.
The magic shield skills need an update. They're extremely situational and often leave you in a less than ideal spot. They could start by implementing the following changes.
1. The load time is reduced to 0.5 seconds at r1
2. The elemental protection afforded by each magic shield is modified by the rank of its affiliated elemental mastery (to include its mastery title)
Elemental Shields
(r1 Elemental Shield - 75%)
(r1 Elemental Shield w/r1 Elemental Mastery - 86%)
(r1 Elemental Shield w/r1 Elemental Mastery & Title - 93%)
Natural Shield
(r1 Natural Shield 50%)
3. Starting at r5, the user may walk with the skill activated. The shield will center itself on the player as they move.
4. Enemies which enter the shield after having dealt elementally aligned damage to the player will be repelled and will receive elemental damage equal to half the damage absorbed by the shield. This effect can repell/damage enemies twice per elemental attack.
(ie: Player uses r1 Fire Shield. The monster uses Firebolt, dealing 240 damage. The player receives 60 damage (ignoring defense/protection/elemental alignment/etc). The shield absorbs 180 damage. The monster rushes the player and is repelled by the shield. The monster receives 90 damage.
(ie: Player uses r1 Fire Shield. The monster uses Lightning bolt, dealing 150 damage. The player receives 150 damage and is stunned. The skill is cancelled.)
(ie: Player uses r1 Fire Shield. The monster runs up to the player and uses smash, dealing 400 damage. The player receives 400 damage and is knocked back. The skill is cancelled.)
(ie: Player uses r1 Fire Shield w/r1 Fire mastery. The monster uses Firebolt four times, dealing a total of 800 damage. The player receives 112 damage. The rest of the enemies in the room now agro the player and rush the player with normal melee attacks. Eight enemies are repelled and receive 400 damage each. The ninth enemy attacks the player with normal melee, dealing 100 damage. The player receives 100 damage and is knocked back. The skill is cancelled.)
That sounds much better.
