So yeah,my other computer was working just fine yesterday, except it seemed to be just a liiittle too slow for some reason...
I dunno why,but when I walked away and came back, the screen was black with a lone cursor in the upper left-hand side of the screen. So I restarted, figuring that'd help, but when it got to the screen that displays my computer's brand instead of the usual spinning sound there's a weird clicking sound too...
All I've done was go into system restore and those other 'recovery options'. When it attempted to repair whatever issues,it said that the OS booted up successfully...does this mean my harddisk is dead...?
And yeah...I was only doing the usual stuff that I always do,viewing the forums here,on youtube,e-mail,etc...

doesn't mean it's completely dead just yet, probably does have some serious issues though. I'd suggest installing windows again on a new drive and then plug this one back in as a secondary drive to try to collect your data from it.
You can also try to clone this one to a new drive, and if it works then you avoided tons of problems.

Eh,I have a Windows Vista installation CD,but those other files of mine are installed on Windows 7...
So if I install Windows Vista, could I possibly still access my Win7 documents...?
I thought I was (somewhat) computer-savvy but I dunno now. :chomp2:
So I'd need another harddisk...?
Also,is it possible that there are just bad sectors or something on the drive, leading to the clicks when Windows 7 is supposed to startup..? If that is the case,I should be able to access that thros MS-DOS right?

clicks are mechanical failure in the drive, so even if it still works now it probably won't for much longer. I wouldn't trust it at all. It's best to keep it turned off until you're ready to backup your data or attempt to clone the drive.
And yeah there wouldn't be a problem seeing the files on windows 7, but I recommend trying to clone the drive first since doing so will avoid needing to re-install anything. It will be like if nothing ever happened.
