A man turned down for a job at a Bethlehem Township electronics store on Nov. 2 then stole an Xbox and fought with police during his arrest, according to court records.
Timothy Joseph Mandes, 23, of 611 Fehr Road, Bushkill, is charged with retail theft, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension and disorderly conduct. He is in Northampton County Prison under $15,000 bail.
According to police:
Around 1 p.m. Nov. 2, police said Mandes was at a job interview at Best Buy, 4413 Birkland Place in Bethlehem Township.
Manager Jake Gruver told police he decided not to hire Mandes. When Mandes left the building, another employee saw him near an Xbox section and later found an empty box.
Gruver told police he reviewed surveillance tapes and it showed Mandes shoving the gaming system down his pants.
At 2:30 p.m. Nov. 4, Bushkill police went to Mandes home to arrest him for the retail theft.
Police said Mandes tried to escape through a basement door and fought with officers during his arrest. Police said the used a Taser during the arrest.
