If the reason to not publish something is for fear of being "weaponized", most of the science stuff shouldn't be published then. That is just one dumb excuse not to publish something.
Scientific discoveries usually lead to more scientific discoveries except that people often don't know what kind of discoveries.

Quote from Armi;676163:
Would you rather have a vaccine made in 5 months or 5 years?
You know how many people this could kill in 5 months?

Yes let's make a strawman out of an example. You completely skipped everything else I wrote, you know the whole part about it being unlikely to be used.

BS, you're making generalizations that lead to spurious conclusions, you're basically taking things out of context.
To your question no I do not, I'm not an expert, nor do I have a model for how it could play out.

It'd be better to develop the vaccine before making it public, but he should by no means be forced to just sit on his work. There has to be a way to only show it to the people who would be working on the vaccine.
While releasing it would be a gamble, there are those who would gladly sentence half the planet to death, regardless of who that half would include. For that reason, I don't see it wafting around in the public as a desireable situation.

Eh, I'm not worried. Vaccination and proper treatment will take care of it. And even if airborne it doesnt spread like wildfire, especially if people arent retarded about it.
But then seeing the number of guys walk into bathrooms with hands that have so much dirt it stains the door they touch, walk out without washing their hands, handing me cash with the dirt and pee on it, and then eating burgers with that hand, I have very little hope for things I leave to others. If this gets out and becomes common, it just means you need to stop eating foods handled by others, always wash your hands, carry sanitizers, and wear a mask when dealing with other people.

In cases like these, I suspect it'd be published in a journal, but not published in say one that is public access.

Nothing really new. We try to reverse engineer Virus all the time and most could kill us if they gained need abilities.
There was one case im blanking on the name but there was a virus outbreak because it mutated and became airborne and the older version (non-airborne) killed like high 90ish % of humans and monkeys. So all the monkeys died. But Humanity just got lucky and that strain lost its ability to be lethal to humans. This is how lucky we got it spread quickly, the people who were in contact with the monkey were infected, and those people actually went home and basically infected anyone they came into contact with. Also it was in a pretty major city.

I'm sure we're intelligent enough to be able to cover the potential threat of this virus with 100% success. After all, it's better to learn and know the correct way to deal with things than to keep it shut and fear it.
[s]Right?[/s]
