I'm not a fan of pre-built systems but some of the better hardware sites offer decent packages. Find a budget range you're comfortable with and state what you want from a system.

I have someone in RL who could possibly help me build a PC and I'd prefer the costs stay under 1800 USD.

1800 is a pretty fat budget, especially if you can re-use a monitor. o_o

I just built a gaming rig for ~650 USD. If you have that kind of cash to spend, you have nothing to worry about.

O_O, you could get a very good gaming PC if that's your budget. (~$1400AUD putting mine together). I only say this cause I know US prices are probably cheaper D:

Osay already did that.

Yeah, $1800 is way too much. You could get a decent gaming rig for $500 and a fairly good one for slightly more. Even my system ran around $1200ish including monitor and stuff and even I'd say that my system is on the excessive side.

You could build the fastest computer on the market with that kind of money. o_O

No way.
My computer is still worth over $2K and it isn't even close to "the best". It isn't even 1/4th.
If you really wanted to, you could easily spend tens of thousands (perhaps over a $100K) on a computer fitting it with multiple dual GPU cards, insanely expensive SSDs, unnecessary CPUs with so many cores that only two programs on the whole internet will ever use all of them, etc.
(Example of something you really don't need, but could get anyway)
That's one expensive cardboard box. Oh, and it comes with a some sort of computer thingy, too.

Osay's post was more than sufficient. But ok. :V

I pretty much posted because I wanted an excuse to post a $20K computer part that no one will ever buy.

I've used them in builds for clients, though not from that manufacturer. One was from texas memory or something like that. "RAM San" or whatever the model was. The other was from
Fusion IO.

I'd imagine the only use for them is for businesses, so no one truly buys them with their own money. I wonder if it's really worth the 20K, though. Like, does it really pay for itself? Maybe it does, in the right hands. I suppose no one would buy it otherwise.
