For art style I don't really care, I like some from both worlds.
I do find hand drawn had a lot more detail, especially in movies (Akira for example, crazy art in there) but a lot of digital ones also have high levels of detail when it comes to movies.
What I do prefer older anime for is the quality and variety of the anime itself. Newer anime is all the same, feels like mass produced stuff where they determine an audience and make something for it, rather than the artist making something he really likes and then an audience forms around it.

That's pretty much what all art has come to. Money first, passion never.

I prefer newer animation obviously. Though most stories/plot for newer Anime's... is pretty crappy these days and re-used. Though there are a few good series each season.

I actually like FMA:B better than the old one (though I still enjoyed the old one).
I've also been seeing a lot of really neat, fluid animations with newer anime, so I can't say I prefer one or the other. I like a mix of both. It doesn't depend on the time period, it depends on whatever it is I'm looking at. I don't care how old something is if it's good, and I've seen good and bad from both ends.

I like newer stuff, but for FMA.. I preferred the older art style a lot more.

I like newer ones better. Just the plots are re-used over and over sometimes for various anime and it becomes predictable.

I love new animation. Depends though. Kiss x Sis doesn't look so good for new series =/
I would totally watch the old 1989 classic "The Legend of Galatic Heroes" if it had modern day animation.

There's something appealing about the look of pre-90's anime. It has a very classic feeling to it and I love that.
Newer anime certainly has an appeal, so long as it doesn't get lost in the fact that it's a pretty gimmick. This always happens for a bit when something new comes around. When HD came to Youtube, people made a bunch of ****ty HD videos and people would watch them just for the image quality.
Anyway, I don't watch much anime. I tried to watch Lucky Star but I felt like I was wasting my time and didn't feel entertained at all, despite enjoying other "pointless" animes like Azumanga Daioh.

There's no both option?
I like both.

I really can't put my finger on it exactly either, but, hand drawn cells compared to the new stuff looks a lot better 80% of the time in my opinion. Of course, hand drawn generally means more error in animation. But frankly, I miss seeing QUALITY moments as bad as 80s anime could be.

I like both.
If I added that, then that result would overwhelm the others I think. I kind of want to see what people will choose if given one or the other.
I totally agree with you though. Both old-school and modern anime can be just as enjoyable. I just happen to watch more older titles because most of the best action and mecha anime in my opinion were made in the 80s to 90s, and those are my most watched genres.
