Wow that must be the entire server population...
Here's the Goodbye blog post
read it there
SEGA deserves the views
SEGA America Blog | A Fond Farewell to PSU on the PC/PS2 Servers!
tonight, Phantasy Star Universe is getting shut down
both PC/PS2 Servers
The funeral features Sonic and semi nude female humans
and the remaining GMs
It's sad to shut down servers for a MMO, even if it's a bad MMO.

I used to play this game.
I played on the US server since it came out to about 6 months later, then about a year later I picked it up again, then decided that SoA regular updates...just wasn't possible.
There was Major SoJ Bias, they got weekly updates, the games were originally released a month? apart, but over time the japanese servers were 11 or so months ahead in content.
So I switched to the japanese servers...Decided I didn't like the game anymore (something about the way my character stood always bothered me), and left it for dead.
Though I regularly post on a phantasy star fan site(Which has a mini mabinogi community inside it).
So I have friends (on mabi) who kept trying to get me to log in for the closing month, since it was free....
I didn't log in, and I can't say I'm sorry.
But, yea, the game was fun while it lasted.
Met some cool people there.
Also I know about half of those people in that screenshot.:XD:

Aw man, they had a free month for the PC version?
This is one of those MMOs I always wanted to try (really enjoyed Blue Burst) but never really got around to it. It's sad to see it end, seeing those screenshots makes me wish I could hop on it...even if I wouldn't know what's what. RIP, PSU...

When you know that all those player in the screenshot was probably half or one third of the entire population of the pc/ps2 server it's quite sad. I enjoyed the game when I played it, and I would play again if a private server was to be made. But knowing the japanese version (and xbox360 version) is still running we're not getting it for now hahaha.

I am glad I didn't get too involved in the game.
I play the single player offline content and the storyline is right out from a B rated anime science fiction series.
While the action was average, a lot of content was locked up and can only be activated by the online subscription.
From the looks of things the online content didn't offer much for the players.
The problem was the developers created MMO like World of Warcraft and F2P MMOs didn't exist.
This is another example of the continuing failures at Sega.

Yes, one of the many complaints of the game is the major lack of content
even with the DLC
