flying sparrow is great for changing directions while dodging. Also you can start focus faster after landing with sparrow than you can from a normal jump so a lot of times i'll use it to quickly position myself for my next focus attack.
mana sparrow is great for jumping from ledges (e.g. lionotus) and is also a quick way to dodge if you just started focus but need to get out of the way (e.g. hidden spider pounce). It's also very stamina efficient (mana mine + mana sparrow costs the same stamina as a flying sparrow on its own) so it's good for if you focused while still on cooldown or for getting two quick and precise smash attacks (breakoffs, lionotus, orbs for trans)
