Catalyst preview 12.1 brings per-application settings.

So now ATI/AMD card users can finally force Mabinogi to use AA and filtering and crap without having to use third-party tools that may or may not even work for your specific card model. Figured some of you might like to know since the AA option in-game is disabled outside of haxx.

Anyways in the gaming section (as shown in the screenshot in the link), go to the "3D Application Settings" and in the first dropdown click "save", find Client.exe in C:\Nexon\Mabinogi\ and it should then allow you to teak the settings and save the profile for Client.exe, which should then show up in the "Application Profiles" list.

It's not like it upgrades the graphics to crysis or anything, but it makes the game less painful to the eyes.

While the shots do definitely show a difference, it's really obvious in motion, and I recommend people take advantage of this (geforce users have been able to do it for ages).

Edit: One thing I'm not sure about with AA is Edge-Detect. Is it better with or without it enabled :P?

Heh the article states it's a few years too late as well.

I know you could manage to force AA on for all games in CCC before, but then you'd be stuck with it on for higher-end games which might slow you down, unless you wanted to go toggle the global configs after each game run...

Anyways as this is mostly a CCC/dependencies update I was able to get it installed and usable without a restart since I didn't have CCC installed to begin with (just the drivers).

It's not like this will can subdivide models or anything, the AA's the biggest improvement (and a welcome one for a game that uses edge rendering).

Yeah the texture resolution for much of the game is rather pitiful, especially for things where they decided to go for textures over model detail.

If there was some way to subdivide models easily it'd be nice... I suppose somebody could just use data package stuff to edit the models, but then comes the issue of distribution since it'd be copyright infringement...

It's a method of AA IIRC, they should be ordered oldest to newest in the dropdown box, older video cards might not support the newer methods.

Hehe, I've read about this. This is one feature I missed from back when I had my NVIDIA card. I've actually been using this globally already, but I find that forcing AA makes my card run a few degrees hotter, plus Mabi still looks like crap in the end, so I turned it off.

Okay, a note to people... it looks like some filtering methods apply to the full image and now the geometry, so it makes the item art blurry and stuff.

I should have expected this. :P Time to tweak my settings some more.

EDIT: Either morphological filtering or wide-tent... my bet is on morphological since it's fully-post.

Yeah, it's the morphological one. It's meant to be used only when other AA modes don't work, or when you want AA with a smaller performance penalty, iirc.
