It's one major reason my Mom no longer labels herself a Christian. She believes in God and the bases of his teachings from the bible (without all the crazy, daft parts), but I've told her for the longest time that you don't need to be a Christian to believe in God.
Seems like with them, though, you're either a Christian who believes in God or you're not a Christian and don't believe in God. It's so painfully black and white to them.
Ah. Well, if a person believes in God and Jesus and bases their beliefs in the Bible ... by all intents and purposes, they are a Christian. "Christian" is just a label to identify yourself by, but it's the beliefs that really count.
Calling yourself a Christian is very easy to do, a lot of people do it. But, then they pull out stuff like this and it makes you say to yourself ... "Really? Did I just read that?" :fail3:
In any case, I am not particularly found of the Roman Catholic Church as an organization. I don't appreciate their backwards and perverse teachings concerning Jesus and Christianity. However, it's just the organization and their beliefs as a whole I have problems with - I don't harbor any ill towards Catholics. Being a Christian is an individual choice, you don't need to belong to some organization to become one.
