For future reference, "dress to impress" is kind of tricky.
Assuming you had no contacts to get you in easily, dressing in a business suit for a mcdonalds interview doesn't work. You're going to be flipping burgers, not going to lunch meetings with clients. The person hiring would take that into consideration most of the time, and find it weird/out of place. Likewise dressing in a t-shirt and jeans (even if they're your most expensive name brand ones) for an office job isn't going to work either.
You have to dress for the kind of job it is.
